    nail?

Sammys toenail (back foot) is crooked and theres blood around it. Hes not limping or holding it up, but I know it hurts because if he hits it just right he yelps. Anyway my question is since hes not babying it and is walking, I don't think a trip to the emergency vet is necessary. Can I give him some baby aspirin? Or anything else to take the edge off. Also, since it is the 4th of july, should I give him some Benadryl, so he doesn't get to excited.

Personally, I'd go with the benadryl but skip the baby aspirin.  If he's not in a lot of pain, it might not be necessary.  Between the sore toe and the benadryl, hopefully he'll just want to stay settled down.

Thank you or the reply. I had aspirin here, so I gave him half (non buffered), he is laying under the bed, not to active, but even with his hurt foot he still managed to sneak out of the yard. Luckily, it was in to the neighbors fenced yard.

I think, if it is the toe up the foot a little it might help to wrap an ace bandage around it till you see the vet,,,this will help prevent ripping the whole thing off...but wrap gently, not too tight

Not to be an alarmist, but examine all the other toes, too.  There is an auto immune disorder (can never remember the name) in which the toe nails are shed.  The quick is exposed etc.  There is a higher incidence of this disorder in corgis and gsds (Baylor has it).  It all started with one toe nail and a yipe here and there.

Sammy is a min. pin.x and I looked at all his toes and they look normal to me. He ate his entire bowl of food, drank plenty of water, had a few snacks ( beets and cottage cheese ), went potty, the only thing hes doing thats not normal is laying under the bed all day with a heating pad.

can this disorder be life threatning?
