Injury to Pad that is up on the leg

Ok, my sister just called, her Lab x G. Pyrenees mix has lacerated the pad thing that is up the leg a bit (anyone know what that is called). She is on the way to the vet but I wondered if anyone knew how bad an injury this is and what the vet might do. She will call me with an update or to get more information...I am looking up everything I can find on the net. Any help would be appreciated.

I think it's called the pastern. At least, that's the name for that general area.

Pads bleed, badly. The vet will likely clean and stitch the cut, and it'll probably heal up just fine. That's just my guess, though. That's what happens, if you snip a pad with scissors, grooming a dog.

Thanks for the info...apparently it is a pretty bad cut....my sister just updated me.....she took Tonks to Banfield and they said $800.00 which was just not possible.......so she took her to another place while I did research and made calls. This place said no more than $200 - $350 depending on if there is nerve damage (they have to put her under and re-attach it). So, I feel better now, dog is at the vet and will be taken care of.

front pad is carpal pad, rear pad is tarsal pad...but there are different terminologies in the books

So the pad on the back of the dog's leg is the tarsal pad?

Or the toes are the carpals and the big "foot" is the tarsal?

i  think on back of the front legs is the carpal pad and on back of the back legs is the tarsal pad....I may have them bass ackwards but  what the heck i could be close

    Dog feets.

That is what I shall call them[;)]

Nobody'd understand if I started using the right names, anyways!

if I have them backwards then then next person will be wondering if they are right...only fair that others should be confused.
