    Another Knee Injury :-(

Well we went to the vet yesterday and the news is, Maxine has ruptured her right cruciate. [:(] So now we have to decide what our next step is. It has been 17 months since her left TPLO surgery. Finances aside we need to figure out do we want to do another TPLO or the other option our vet called a "suture" technique were they run a figure 8 suture between the upper and lower portion of the knee to secure the joint.

Has anyone had this surgery done? I would love to hear the pros and cons. Maxine did amazingly well on the TPLO but it is very expensive and she will be 10 the day after Christmas. She is in very good health, and extremely active. She can't stand the fact we are leaving her home when we take Belle for walks. But she has been too sore to exercise. I will hate either procedure, I think it is harder on me than her. She is my BABY and deserves the best, but I need to try to be practical too.

I would appreciate all input good or bad. It will help us make an educated decision.

    Thanks
    Ann, Art, Maxine (and Belle)

None of mine has ever had either of those procedures done, but my now 7 year old golden, KayCee has had both knees operated on for luxating patella. Her first knee was done when she was 16 months old, the other a little over a year later.  The 2ed one did require ACL repair.  That knee was really bad and the tibia crest had to be cut and the tibia torqued. The first knee I had to keep her inactive for 4 weeks, the 2ed knee, inactive for 6 weeks.  I say she never had the figure 8, but I really dont know what he did to repair her ACL.  I just know that thank goodness, she can  run and lay and jump and has no problems. I have had her on Glucosamine/MSM since her first surgery, and added SynoviG3 after her 2ed operation.

I want to wish you and your girl the best, no matter which way you decide to go.

    Sandra,

Sounds kinda like KayCee had the TPLO process but I could be wrong. I had HUGE success with the TPLO yes the recovery was long (8 wks of no activity at all for Maxine except swimming not even walking) It is just an expensive procedure. Not that she isn't worth it! We are not rich. Our other dog is insured for such emergencies, but Max was too old to make insurance feesible and we wouldn't have been covered for this anyway (high risk).

    GOLDENS RULE!

    Thanks Sandra for your input
