broken leg. spiral tibia break :(

[8|] About three weeks ago my 18 week old puppy then landed and broke her leg.
she just jumped and went funny when she hit the floor. She had her first check up and he said it looked good.
The puppy is an agility puppy to be. She comes from lines of dogs who are champions but now I worry. The orthopedist says to expect a full recovery and agility in her future but I HAVE TO KEEP HER FROM RUNNING JUMPING PLAYING SKIPPING DOING STAIRS ..etc..
She has no idea she is injured. We have her crated a lot and on a leash but she sometimes just wants to go after the two other dogs we have no matter how tight we hold her.
Any suggestions to keep her occupied when in her Sherpa bag and crate?

toys! And plenty of them. My dogs favorite is this ball that dispenses treats as it rolls. Hide a squrrle is also a great mind game. I also like the cup game, i put a treat under a cup mix three cups around and let her use her nose to find the treat.

Also please socialize her with other dogs while in confinement. Bring in gentle dogs who will not hurt her. Mine was confined at around 6mo. to 9mo. due to hip problems, surgery and a torn ligiment. She was not around other dogs at this time and the only one she did meet was aggressive towards here. This was the time my dog developed her aggression because I kept her away from all other dogs during this crutule time in her life. When she was well agean she fear all other dogs. As an agilty dog yours is going to need to be extreemly social.

thankyou for the reply. I cannot use the treat ball because it will make her super active said my surgeon. I do know I have to keep her running so to speak.

I have not advice just sympathy. Mabey at some point in her recovery she can swim. Good luck

THE OPUP STILL HAS THE FIBIA TO SUPPORT TO HELP HOLD THE LEG TOGETHER..NO GOODF IDEA XCEPT WHAT HAS BEEN EXPRESSED TO KEEP HER QUITE BUT AS LONG AS THERE IS NO MORE DAMAGE IT WILL PROBABL HEAL FINE BUT THE BOUNCIND WILL EXTEND THE HEALING TIME FOR A WHILE...SHOULD WORK OUT OK

I hear you. My (just barely) 3 year-old had her right hip replaced a week ago and we have a 16-week recovery period.

After successfully dealing with the first week, we're into ONLY our second week and it feels like it's been an eternity already.

Oh boy . . .

hunh, this must be more common in dogs than I knew. My friend's 10 week old puppy had the same exact fracture. Spiral fracture of the tibia in the rear left leg. No idea how she did it but there ya go. She uses an X-pen for her pup at home in order to keep her from running for too long, but the pup does get to go out and explore, potty, and play in the x-pen. If your pup's a future agility dog, get her into tugging. Just holding onto the tug toy should be enough to help her play a bit. And do continue to socialize. My friend takes her dog everywhere she can.
