Coat looking very drab (help please)

My Kiya has had the most gorgeous coat I've seen on a basenji.  It was never the coarse fur most adult basenjis have, but a soft puppy fur (even at 6 years old).  It always appeared very healthy.  Over the last few months her fur has started falling out.  She doesn't have any bald spots really, but its very thin now (thinner than normal for a basenji) and the texture has changed.  I'm not sure what is causing this.  The last time I changed her food was back in January and it was to Solid Gold.  Before that she was on Natural Balance (but only for a month) and prior to that on Beneful.  We made the switch to Solid Gold because our other basenji, Sam, can't tolerate most foods, but he does well on that one.  I don't know if it could be the food finally effecting her now or if it is something else, but I will admit I'm terrified to change foods after all we went through to find one that works for Sam.  Does anyone have any ideas?  My husband says she's just losing her winter coat, but she's a basenji and last I heard they don't get winter coats...particularly not in Phoenix.

    Thanks.

I would do a thyroid check.  I feed two different dog foods based on the needs of the dogs.  I just feed in different locations to prevent problems.  I would not change food before a medical check.

I second mrv's suggestion; it sounds like something else could be causing this.
