Fever, weird coat

    Fever, weird coat

My 4 pound Chihuahua has a fever this morning and her coat is a bit rough looking. The only thing out of the ordinary is 1) she got a bath at the pet store two days ago, and 2) she got an application of Frontline Plus right after her beautification at the pet store. I use the smallest Frontline there is . . . "for dogs up to 22 pounds." Could the fever be a side effect of this? It seems that she was sickly after the last time that I applied this. Should I reduced the dosage to about 1/2 per application? Any ideas would be welcome as this seems to be a recurring problem.

half dose usually works,,,but when you say fever, is that by thermomter or by feel...These forehead temperature
strips work pretty well when placed in the hairless groin area..

For small dogs half will work just apply it every 3 weeks instead of 4.  Her coat may look rough and sort of greasy on top where it was applied and spreading out.  If the fever doesnt go away fairly soon she should see a vet.  Normal for a dog is 100-102.

Thanks for the help. Josie went to the vet yesterday and it appears that something applied her skin burned her, again. This has happened twice upon returning from beautification and getting a Frontline treatment. I think we won't do that again. SO, she got a shot a benadryl, some antibiotic regimen as her skin seems a bit infected, and some Hydroxyzene to keep the itching down. Fever is gone and she is back to her sweet self again.

Josie is a pretty tough little pooch, but there is someting that really bothers her when applied to her skin. She takes 5 minutes to get a bath in the kitchen sink, so I'll do that in the future. When we left her at PetSmart for a bubbly, we specified "hypoallergenic shampoo."

    Again, thanks for your help.

Frontline has burned dogs in the past... try using Advantage instead.
