kennel cough?

    kennel cough?

I'm not sure exactly if my puppy has kennel cough, but he's been having really dry sounding coughing and a wee bit of sneezing. Everytime he coughs I keep thinking he's chocking on something. I was wondering if there was anything I could give him to help his coughing.

When I brought Lizzie home she developed a bit of kennel cough due to the changes in temperature (or so I was told) I was told to give her a bit of Childrens Robitussin, I dont remember how mcuh though. It cleared up in a few days.

But if you are hesitant take the pup to a vet. Maybe someone here can tell you the proper dosage for you pup

Yeah I had read elsewhere that Robutussin could be givin for kennel cough, I just wanted to ask here because people seem to be knowledgable here. Thanks [:)]. Oh I also have another question, does kennel cough cause them to lose their appetite any?

It could be kennel cough, and it could cause a loss of appetite.  If the cough isn't really bad, I personally wouldn't use any cough syrup.  If the cough were bad enough to be a serious problem, I'd get to vet for a check-up, but that's just me (and I tend to err on the cautious side).  When I rescued my lab from the shelter, she had kennel cough.  Whenever she stood up, she'd cough a few times and then cough up a bit of mucous.  I took her in and they gave her some antibiotics BUT they did tell me it usually will run it's course without meds and is basically like our common cold.

As I was reading up some more on kennel cough I came across someone who said that some bread with a bit of honey would help with the coughing so I gave him some, and by looks at how fast he gobbled the little pieces down he I imagine he liked it. His coughing has gone down some and he's not sneezing as much.

good luck with your pup and let us know when he gets better. Kennel Cough is not a big deal if treated right away. It is heartbreaking to see your pup hack and cough but if you treat it, it will go away.

When Lizzie came down with it I almost had a heart attack I thought the breeder had sold me a sick pup and I thought she would die! Lol, it turned out she had no sign whatsoever of kennel cough before coming home but her breeder was kind enough to give me the Robitussin advice and told me if it didnt clear up in a few days to take her to the vet and that she would take care of the bill
