Last summer, Sally got what the vets *think* was a kidney infection. She was not eating, had a temp of 105.5-106 degrees, was lethargic, drooling, and not drinking. She was at the vets for 3 days, and was on an IV for most of that time. When I picked her up at the end of the third day, it took her days to get back to eating normally, etc. They did an x-ray and said that one of her kidneys was enlarged. They said that she could have been born like that, or it could have been because of the infection. They said they could do an ultrasound, but it was so expensive, that we decided to wait and see if she responded to the treatment, and she did.
I always assumed that it was because of the infection. Recently, I came across a couple of x-rays she had taken at the emergancy vets (before I knew better than to buy her cooked bones, and she ate almost a whole 8 inch bone in a hour or so) about a month before this all occured. In one of them she had what looked like an enlarged kidney. I am planning on showing them to the vet.
Has anyone heard of an enlarged kidney in dogs? What kind of issues can this cause? I don't know the history of her first year of life, nor her parentage, and am a bit worried about it. She has not had any major issues since them. A wheat allergy and one or two upset tummies is pretty much it.
What also kind of worries me is that one of the vets was sure it was a kidney infection, the other was not so sure, but wasn't sure what he thought it was.....
