    Fleas/Ticks HELP!!

I recently found out that my 4 month old chihuahua/dachshund mix has fleas from playing with my friends pugs. Is there any recommendations on what type of flea/tick prevention that i can use?? Also, how can i tell what is or isn't a flea/tick??

we like frontline plus. just make sure what ever you get is the right product for his weight.

I prefer Frontline Plus over Advantage and Advantix, but they've all worked well on my crew. I don't really know about Advantix's claim about repelling mosquitoes, though. Of course, nothing repels those things in south Louisiana.

We use only natural non chemicals things at our farm to combat fleas and believe me at one time we had over 200 dogs on the farm. So yes fleas were a problem. Now we have guines that take care of lots of the pests. We use a mixture of [linkall>http://www.shaklee.net/barefoot/product/00021]all purpose H[/link], vinegar and water mixed 1/3 of each in a 16 oz spray bottle.
For bathing we use just [linkAll>http://www.shaklee.net/barefoot/product/00021]All Purpose H[/link] full strength.

google images of fleas and ticks and you will see a great difference between the two..

fleas are 1/10th or less the size of a tick...a tick is going to be especialy bigger when engorged with blood...tick removal can be tricky ..they will get thier head embedded into the skin, and when you try to pull the tick off,the head will stay behind.try to make sure you get the whole thing..

Frontline works the best, tried advantix, still had flea problem, plus frontline is waterproof. You can also spray your yard with flea and tick spray. ticks are awful creatures, ewwwwwww

    Hi,

Just read your post. I discovered something that can used for fleas, ticks ect that works better than any chemicals and costs very little. Garlic & brewers yeast combo which can be bought online or off will keep all pests away from you dog. Fleas, ticks ect HATE garlic. In garlic crops not one bug is found for that reason! :>;) I have been using that for over two months now and not one problem but prior to that, in spite of frontline, advantage, and such,  I sometimes still had a problem with my dogs getting fleas, ect but something else as well was biting their tails causing the hair to drop off. YIKES! I ended up spending a lot of money for vet visits and anitbiotics and still the problem came back. Because I am into natural for myself I thought why not for my dogs? So I did a search and found the solution I mention above. I PROMISE that works beautifully. Very cheap and does not harm your dogs organs as chemicals can do. I gave my dogs their last frontline well over two months ago and then at the same time I started them on the natural way. Live here in Florida where bugs and pests thrive in a big way, yet no more pests problems. I'm happy and most of all my 'kids' are very happy!  I put the tabs in their supper meal. Garlic good for their hearts too.
