    help!

A month ago, Mika took antibiotics (Clavamox then Augmentin) for a swollen teat. The teat shrank a little, but it is still unnaturally large. She has had a problem with itching/scratching, licking, chewing her paws, biting at her fur, rubbing her eyes and sneezing (twice in a row at the most). She scratches and bites everywhere, but licks a lot particularly in her groin area. Lately however, she has developed what looks like pink little spots (rashes?) along her hairless belly. A bald spot on her elbow has also gotten bigger and redder because she scratches so much. She is already on a vet-prescribed shampoo for her flaky skin (which has gotten much better). She is flea and tick-free, and I doubt it is her diet because it has always been the same. Could it be an allergy, a thyroid problem, hotspots or something else?

It sounds like an allergy problem with her scratching, sneezing and rubbing her eyes. They can develop an allergy to their food especially if they have been on one particular food for a long period of time as you state.
    What are you feeding Mika?

Have you changed any of your household cleaners or has anything changed in the environment in which you keep her?  What about the flea stuff you are using on her?  They can get a reaction from that.  See if you can think of anything you have changed...laundry soap......... anything.

Do you have her on any suppliments for the skin in addition to the shampoo?

    loveukaykay:
Just some olive oil and vegetable oil as there are no supplementary oils available in the market.

    firestorm:
I use Frontline when she has ticks/fleas, but since she hasn't gotten any since last time I am not using any flea stuff on her at the moment. Nothing new in the environment at all either.

    forpaws:
Mika is on a homecooked diet of white rice with meat (alternates between fish, chicken, beef and pork [except ham]), along with some vegetables. She used to be on Science Diet until her foster mom switched her to a homecooked diet of rice with ground beef, and I changed it a little since I adopted her.

    chicken,
Could be the cause of her allergy, as the antibiotics also. It sounds to me like she has an allergy to something either environmental, new cleaner, scent in the home, something you are using around her that is new.
I find allergy dogs, when it comes to food, chicken and duck are not good along with brewers yeast, fat and some gluetens like rice, corn and other grains.
I would have her re-checked just in case she has come down with a cold or something to that effect.
Poor baby. I feel for the two of you.

From what Ive read vegetable oil is not good for dogs so I would stop using that.  Some people here use coconut oil but you have to make sure its the extra virgin kind.  Im not sure about the olive oil.

Try adding fish to his meas like Jack Mackeral or Sardines... fish oil is going to be great for his skin.  Also you can just buy fish oil capsules for people and give him that.
