For everyone who has a dog that is suffering from any kind of skin or allergy problem - please make sure your vet checks for underactive thyroid function. My vet said my dog's thyroid was only slightly underactive, but the thyroid pills I asked for have made all the difference in my dog's life. I can't believe what I (we) went through with her itchy, scaley and balding body before the thyroid medicine. She is a beautiful coal black lab with light blue eyes (a little Siberian Husky) She weighs 120 pounds because she is part Ridgeback so she is taller than a typical lab. She still has allergy trouble in her ears, but she is 90% healthier than before the Levothroid. I hope I can help others with my experiences. I figured out how to keep my Mastiff healthy. It's not as easy as a thyroid pill and a Selsun Blue bath, but I have it figured out! (Whole other story!)
