    Dog sick

Hi I am new here.  I have a 9 year old black lab newfy cross.  About two weeks ago I noticed that he wouldn't hold his big beautiful tail up like he usually does.  He seemed to be having problems having a bowel movement.  He seemed ok off and on for the first week.  I didn't take him to the vet at that time as he seemed to have a good day then a bad one.  Finally I took him to the vet last Thursday.  The vet didn't notice and physical symptoms when he checked him over.  Just a little puffiness in his hocks and he also was running a fever of 39.9.  The vet suggested bloodwork That was done.  On Monday he called to say that there was inflammation.  Arranged for us to come in on Tuesday and he did a joint tap, the thinking being that he might have immune mediated arthritis, hope i spelled that correctly.  He was very unsteady yesterday when he came home from the surgery.  Last night he is whinning, ate very little , his eyes are really gummy.  Today he can barely walk.  Only ate a very little.  Just lays there and whines and cry quietly.  He is very lame on the back leg.  His eyes are almost crusted over, He seemed to be having a hard time urinating.  Goes a little bit walks a little and goes a little more.  He is unable to have a bowel movement.  Has been trying for two days and only had a little diarrhea lat night.  He really doesn;t seem to be doing too well.  Vet is not open here yet.  I am concerned that the vet is not looking at alot of the other symptoms.  The bowel movement problems, the urination problems and so on.  He still feels really hot, and the problems with his eyes.  The bowel movement problem has been for a couple of weeks now.  Vet doesn;t seem concerned about that.  But wouldn't it be a concern for a dog not to be going to the bathroom ???? I know this seems rambling but i am so concerned and don't know what I should do.

Should I take him to another vet.  When he did the joint tap he said the fluid looked good but would wait for results.

    thanks for any help

I don't have any suggestions regarding the condition, but I'd suggest that if instinct is telling you to visit another vet, it's usually a good idea to go to do so. At least you could get another person's thoughts on the situation, and since this seems pretty severe, I'd think it's well-worth getting a second opinion. Good luck to you and your dog.

Well I took him back to the vet now they are doing xrays which I suggested they do first about a week ago.  They are looking for bladder stones or fecal blockage.  I find this very frustrating and it so hard to have such a sick dog.  Anyways.  I will let you all know what happens when I pick him up.  Thanks for this being here as it is so nice to vent a little.

I would get a second opinion asap.  A tick on a leg can cause lameness.  DId you get a lyme test?

I do not know if they tested for Lyme disease, i don;t think it is an issue here in this area, but they may of when they did blood tests last week.  We have not travelled to areas that have ticks nor are they found around here alot but I will ask the vet about that when he calls today with the results from xrays.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I appreciate the help more then you know
