    The flies!

I'm pretty sure my question isn't exactly what this forum is for, but it does deal with pests.  I just got a new dog a week ago, and when she goes number 2 outside, the droppings attract hundreds of flies.  I've had three dogs live in this house before her and I've never seen so many flies around, so it seems as though it's something specific to my dog.  Has anyone ever had a problem like this?  It's very disturbing because there's literally a swarm of flies right by my back door now.

do you ever clean up the yard? i know we have to clean up the poop regularly or flies will certainly be a problem during warmer months.

We'll shovel it up and toss it into the bushes (as we've always done).  I might have to go check out any kind of "fly trap" they might sell at the Home Depot.  This is getting pretty bad!

We are having the worse case of fleas we ever saw this year.  A couple of years ago flies were thicker than fleas on a hounds back.  i think sometimes there are just more of flies, fleas, ticks, etc than other years.  Byr getting rid of the poop every day will help.

If you are just tossing it in the bushes its not far enough GONE to deter the flies.  I go out every single morning while my SIX gsds are eating breakfast and clean their yard.  I take plastic grocery bags...one for picking it up, one for putting it into.  Then I tied the bag shut and put it in the covered trash can.  Every day.  Rain, shine or blizzard.  Guess what?  No flies.

Glenda - can you come show my DH?  He cleans up daily too, but he takes it all and throws into the big trash can outside.  Guess what happens if you go to throw something in there anytime afterwards?  Let's just say, it's not pretty [:@].  I agree that if the poop is still exposed to air, light, etc., it's just a breeding ground.  Not sure if that was our problem summer before last, but we had flies like crazy.  Tried to have a patio party and it was embarassing to watch everyone shooing flies away all evening.

Fly strips don't work, but the bait traps do.  The kind where you add the vial of whatever the stinky stuff is and add water to it.  The flies are attracted to it, but you don't want it too close cause it's stinks horribly.
