    rash and pool chlorine

Does anyone have any knowledge of chorine and skin issues? My mixed breed has developed an itchy rash under his neck-the only new activity has been drinking and sticking his feet in the pool--he does not swim in the pool. Thanks for any info. buck's mom

I would think it was more about an allergy to pollen or somthing instead of the chlorine.  You choline levels should not be high enough to really effect it, but I know some dogs are ultra sensitive to things.  Maybe you can just hose him off after he gets out and I wouldnt let him drink it because thats not a good thing anyway with the chemicals.  Welcome!

The doggie day care where I take Romeo and Mindy, just opened their pool for the summer two weeks ago, when I picked them up they were soaking wet and just plain happy, but I noticed Romeo was scratching like crazy and had a rash on his belly that was not there in the morning, I called the day care and asked if they had just fertilized the yard or fumigated or anything and they said no, they said Romeo had been on the pool on and off.  This past Saturday, I asked them to not let him play in the pool and when I picked him up he was squeaky clean, well not really, but he did not go in the pool, no rash, no scratching.  So next saturday he will go in the pool and I will give him something for the reaction later. He loves to swim!
