Sassy problems again - pls help

Dyan - yep, I'm sure the Dr. got the results at least at the same time as your husband did, if not sooner.  I wasn't worried about my results because I wasn't having any problems and honestly, cervical cancer is low on my worry list.  However, if I were in pain, say from a back injury, and was waiting for MRI results....well, let's just say I wouldn't be pleasant or patient.  I hope your husband is doing okay and the test results were helpful.  My best friend is going thru some really awful back problems right now, so I know how debilitating (and depressing) it can be.

Cathy, I hope your results were favorable, even if you were not worried about them.  DH results leaves him with a decision as to which way to go to try to help his problem.  Of course doctor is referring him to a surgeon, but he chose to go to a doctor specializing in pain first...All of this waiting and seeing,,,3 months down the line of doctoring, therapy and now its waiting to get into a doctor to see if we can do something to rid the pain.   Getting appointments inside of 2 months is real hard around here.  He chose a pain doctor that was recommended by someone and has to wait only 2 1/2 weeks!

Thanks Dyan - the biopsy results for me were normal, so I was grateful for that.  I spoke to my friend last night and sadly, she's not doing better either. She had an epidural procedure last Thurs. (nerve block & cortisone) and had high hopes it would help, but it really hadn't.  Surgery may be on the horizon for her now.  I hope your husband gets some relief from the pain Dr and can avoid surgery.

Regarding Sassy - we gave her a bath yesterday and as she dried, we noticed several nickel sized sores on her back.  I'm happy that they seem to be on the healing side, but it surprised me to realize how extensive this infection has been.  I really hope these antibiotics do the trick to clear this up.

Cathy, Ollie used to get tons of sores on his back. I used to walk him all the time and you could see from them especially well from being in back of him. But his were like pimples, large ones that is.
DH is hoping to get a nerve block to help him,,,he is aware that most of the time they do NOT help the first time,,sometimes not even the second.  My friend who is a nurse says Nerve Blocks are the doctors "dream!"  They do tons of them in one day, get paid lots of money and almost always the patient has to come back for at least one more.  Tell your friend NOT to give up with one try before surgery and at least another try with the block before taking a chance with surgery.
    Thank goodness for your biopsy!

Yes - her Dr. (an orthopedic surgeon) did tell her it might take 2 or 3 of these treatments to help, so thanks for giving me some hope.  I'll pass it on to her.

Sassy's a little hard to spot skin problems on because she's black, so if it isn't on her tummy, you can't really see it.  I noticed it more because the areas of the sores made her fur matter in those places.  I originally thought my husband hadn't rinsed the shampoo off well enough, but then realized it was these sores.  I'm sure glad the vet gave me a refill on the Zenequin [:)]

Ollie was also black Cathy, with Dane straight sleek hair,,,,but when walking him and being behind him, the bumps raisied the fur and you could see the sores,,,,but from the front or even standing straight above him, you couldn't see anything.  It was weird.  After changing his food over to Eagle and getting him well again,, I thought he was ALL BETTER until I took him for a walk to see the bumps on his back from behind.   Luckily he no longer gets them.

Oh I forget that Ollie is your son's dane and your's is Buddy (in the picture).  Yeah, so you also probably enjoyed the flakey dandruff with Ollie too.  I'm so happy that he's a healthy boy now and I don't think you've ever mentioned Buddy having any of those types of problems, right?

I've been rereading "The Allergy Solution for Dogs" by Shawn Messonnier and just read the chapter on allergy shots, which he isn't terribly fond of, mainly for the reason my vet isn't (length of time to see results and 30% chance that it won't be effective).  He, of course, hates steroids but doesn't mention Atopica and I'm assuming that's because the book was written in 2000 and it might not have been around yet.   He's quite the advocate for the holistic approach but states that anything you try, should be tried for at least 2 months before you switch to something else and it may take lots of trial and error before you find what works and what doesn't.   The vet said she'd check in later this week and I'm going to ask her again if she thinks the Atopica is the way to go.  As much as I hate to wait several months for Sassy to be better, my gut says that we should go with the allergy testing.  Either way, we'll need to do something since just the delay from April to the beginning of June led to this latest infection.

Yes, Ollie is my sons dog. Bubblegum (Bubby) is in the picture. And yes,,,flakes gallore on Ollies pretty black coat,,which was not very pretty and shiny for a long while also.  Bubblegum thankfully does not have the problems that Ollie had.  And I sure hope you can clear up Sassys problems as well.  Here is Bubby and Ollie.

Those big boys deserve to have pictures that big!!  They're so sweet looking and I'll bet they make a huge presence in a room huh [sm=lol.gif]. Ollie looks like he has a beautiful coat now, as does Bubblegum.  Great picture!!

Thank you Cathy.   Yeah, those two big dogs in my small house could really get in the way.  Or I might say we get in their way!
