Jetta is sick---please send good vibes

Jetta has been throwing up for 2 days and has diahhrea. Last night I noticed she had blood in her stools, so this morning my mom called the emergency vet. She said not to let Jetta eat or drink anything for six hours. She doesn't seem to be too lethargic, but I am still worried. Bloody stools and vomiting can't be good....Last night I fed her chicken/white rice and pedialyte, but she still throwing up and had runny stools this morning. If she doesn't get better in a few hours we are going to get her tested for parasites, which is what the vet thinks it might be. Please keep Jetta in your thoughts and hope she gets better soon!!

I'm  very sorry to hear Jetta is not felling well.  Another thought would be is a blockage of some sort.   Personally I would not wait, I would be at the vets ASAP.

I will keep you and Jetta in my thoughts and prayers.  Let us know how she is doing.

I hope she feels better soon.

The blood could just be from her straining and going so much with the diarrhea.

I'd fast her longer than six hours.  I'd do just small amounts of water or whatever fluids she'll take.  And, then after 24 hrs. start with several small meals a day of the homecooked chicken/rice or lean hamburger (you'd want to rinse it after you cook it).

I don't know how anyone else feels but six hours isn't long enough.

Parasites are likely -- and follow her around outside and anywhere she goes pour chlorox on it if you possibly can.  This could be anything from typical bacteria to hooks/whips or giardia.  It could be something more serious.

Is she holding down water?  Don't let her get dehydrated.

Take care -- holler if you need to.  Good luck (and prayers and good thots on their way)

Diarrhea can cause them to dehydrate quickly.  And, blood in the stools, accompanied by diarrhea, is something I take to mean that a vet visit should happen *now*.

Yesterday we took her to the emergency vet-- we had to wait for 3 hours!! They took a stool sample, took her temp, etc but couldn't find anything. So we ended up taking her home without any new info, which is really frustrating.  I have been giving  her water (tablespoon at a time) to keep her hydrated, but she still has been throwing up. She hasn't had diarrheah since yesterday, but that could be because she hasn't had anything to eat all day.
She doesn't really seem sick---she still wants to play,. I am just worried becuase in the 3 years I have had her she has never had runny stools (occasionally loose but not liquid!). Hopefully if I just keep her hydrated and let her take it easy, whatever it is will run its course.
She hasn't eaten for 24 hours so I gave her a tablespoon of rice with a little chicken this morning at like 7 o'clock. She hasn't puked it up yet and no stool so I am keeping my fingers crossed!
I hope she gets better because we have company coming today to celebrate memorial day! Nothing scares away your guests like telling them your dog has vomiting and explosive diarrheah![:'(]lol

I'm glad you took her to the vets better to be safe then sorry.  It's too bad they couldn't pin point the problem but that happens sometimes even in human medicine.  Sounds like your doing the right thing, small amounts of food at intervals.  I would give her ice chips to help keep her hydrated.

I hope Jetta gets back to her normal self soon.  Sending lots of positive thoughts her way.   Big hugs for you.

I hope you and your company have a great day.

If Jetta now has stopped pooping entirely, and still can't keep anything down (did that chicken and rice come up??), I would now start wondering about an obstruction.

Keep a log, Melissa -- record all the water/etc. you give her and if it stays down.  Record anything she throws up and if she poops (time, amount, etc.).

When there is an obstruction you often won't see for a day or two the true signs.  Sometimes it will just irritate the intestines so you get diarreha.  But if the obstruction 'moves' and doesn't let anything thru -- and once the intestinal tract below the obstruction is 'cleaned out' they will stop pooping.  If food has backed up TO the stomach, they will vomit anything they eat (and often anything they drink) because it can't pass out of the stomach.

I would think the e-vet would have taken x-rays??  Make sure you call in the morning and have those sent to your regular vet.  If she's still not ok, get her back to the vet (your own vet preferably).

She's been on a lot of meds -- so she's got quite a history.  If she's keeping down water but not food, that will tell the vet something.

Keep on it -- I hope she feels better.  And btw -- let Jetta stay alone -- don't make her be with company today -- she needs to rest.  and she definitely doesn't need anyone trying to feed her junk "to be nice".

The chicken and rice did come up. I have since given her fluids and that has stayed down so far. I guess she just can't handle food yet. I am watching her close to see if she will poop again.

Don't even TRY to feed her more.  Staying hydrated is more important right now -- and if she throws up food she'll throw up what water is in there too.  Keeping down the water IS paramount.

Do you know how to pick up skin between your thumb and forefinger and gently pinch and pull it 'up' and let go?  If the skin kinda sticks together and sinks SLOWLY back down, she's dehydrated.  That's bad.  If the skin snaps right back, you're ok.

If she gets dehydrated she'll need emergency care.  I'm gonna email you my number, just in case you get stuck.

Oh, God, I hope she's alright.  These things always seem to happen over a holiday weekend, don't they??
