    Crusty growth on nose??

hi - Im new to this board. I have a 13 year old Brittany who has grown what I can only call a "crusty growth" on her nose. It seems to come off, then start to grow back. Its scaley, nodules, that are dry (do not ooze pus or anything). the growth was about 1/2 cm thick before my dh scrubbed it off. She doesnt seem to be sick with a fever, and her behavior seems pretty normal for her. She also has a red swollen patch on her elbow, which Im not sure if this is related. I have made a vet appt for next monday... However, I am wondering if any of you have any ideas of what this might be?

    Thanks! Ang

Some of the possibilities are allergies, fungal infection, discoid lupus, cancer, insect stings, abscesses, demodectic mange, aspergillosis...and the list goes on.
Peteducation.com has an article by Holly Nash, DVM, that lists causes of crusty lesions in dogs.

The vet looked at my 9 year old dogs crusty nose last nite.  He said to take wet cloth and wipe the nose to moisten it, then rub some vasoline on it to seal the mositure in.
