    We need serious help.....

Hi everyone my name is Sofy and i'm new to the site. So glad i found a place where i can hopefully find answers to our questions.

My husband and I have a 6 month old female Rat Terrier, her name is Daisy but we call her Bugs or Buggy. At the moment she is EXTREMELY sick and we don't know what to do :( Since this morning she has been:

Vomiting (it looks like saliva or acids)
Diarreah but it's practically pure blood
Lethargic, she doesn't even look up at us and can barely walk
    Not eating or drinking

We already took her to the vet and they tested her for Parvo, it was neg. The vet pretty much just gave us antibiotics and an IV to administer and told us " It could be anything...maybe something she ate, so all i can do is give her Antibiotics and wait for the lab results" (blood tests)

Our baby is literarly on the verge of dying and at this point we don't think she'll make it through the night. We don't know what to do!  Has anyone ever experienced something like this with their dog? Any suggestions on what it could be? She's going every 30 minutes and it's pure blood. Thank you in advance for your help.

I don't know exactly what to say, I don't know what it could be.  But, if my dog was having those symtoms, previous vet visit or not, I'd be taking her in to the emergency vet tonight.

We've been all over the internet looking for what it could be and can't seem to find anything. Our last option is emergency and at this point that's what we're going to do. Thanks for replying and i'll be back tomorrow to update.

Welcome to the forum.  Daisy is gorgeous I'm sorry to hear she is so ill.  ITA with willowchow, if it were my dog she would be at the E-clinic right now. They have equipment there to get a read out on her blood work immediately.   I would say she needs a continual IV so she doesn't dehydrate.  Did your vet run any other tests?

I will keep Daisy in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.

    How is Daisy today??

This is really hard for me right now, it's hard to even type. Daisy passed away this morning and no one could tell us what was wrong with her. We took her to emergency last night and all they did was administer an IV continuosly...they didn't even try to run tests, they said she only had a few hours. What could it have been? We took care of her, we did everything right. This came on so suddenly, not even 24 hours. I'm sorry if i'm rambling...this is just too hard. Thank you all for your support. I have to go for now.

I just wanted to add that the picture we have of her on this thread was only taken about 4-5 days ago and she was perfectly healthy and happy. That's our girl.

Oh I'm really sorry, Sofy.  How horrible, I can only imagine what you're going thru.

So, they had NO idea what was going on at all??  I guess the only way you will know is with a necropsy.  But, that's so hard to have done too.  Keep us updated.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss and I can't even imagine how difficult this must be.  It sounds like whatever it was came on very suddenly and you did everything you could to help her.  Did you ask them to do an autopsy (not sure it's called that for animals)?  It might help if you knew what the cause had been.
Again, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

oh God, I am so sorry. I have no idea either but geeze I wish we did.

I'm terribly sorry to read this.  It's so hard to loose a little one, especially one so young.

I'm wondering if she found poisen somewhere....the bloody diaherra *could* have been caused by that.  But, I'm not sure that it really matters WHY she left, other than to ease your mind that you did nothing wrong, it just matters that she DID leave and it hurts like heck.  Sending peaceful vibes your way and truely hoping that you can find peace in this.  You'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.  She'll wait there for you, but to HER the waiting will seem like seconds.  Know in your heart that you did what you could do for her, and that she knew how much you loved her.

    Run free sweet baby.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry for your loss....my heart is breaking for you.  Just a thought because I remember a similar story on this board...do you have a BBQ grill with a can to catch grease that she may have gotten into?  Too much fat can cause pancreatitis.

Thank you all for the kind words. I hope she did know how much we loved her, and i know we'll meet again. We want an autopsy, we just don't understand. The Emergency Hospital told us the same thing that it's possible she could have got into something poisinous, but we don't know how or what it could have been. I'm a stay at home mom and everything is locked up. I don't know what do, how to even begin to grieve. Thank you all again. i'm waiting a few more minutes so we can ebgin to make arrangements for cremation. I'll remember happy times.

Before i go for a little bit, in reply to Marty, No we don't have a grill with a can and our grill is in our storage shed. So  maybe not that, but it did seem like her insides were coming out like they were disintegrating. I'll be back to update for sure...at least to warn others about these unseen dangers.

How awful!  I'm so sorry.  I have a soft spot for ratties; I know quite a few and their heads look a little basenji-ish.  Daisy really was a beautiful girl, there's just something about tri's isn't there?  It's always hard to say goodbye to a dog you've loved, but I can only imagine how hard it must be for you when your little girl was just begining her adventure with you and your family.  Please come here and grieve as much as you need to.  Sometimes others don't understand how we can love our dogs so much, but people here do.  I hope you can find some answers and peace soon.
