Diarrhea again

    Diarrhea again

During our hour walk today with Blue I notice he is having diarrhea again and he has a mess in the house.

So here is my question. Would a increase in Blue's activity would make him have diarrhea??

Blue was at the vet last Wednesday for his shots and last Sunday I switch his food to Canidae all stages.  I have just started giving him longer walks and that is where I'm wondering if that is causing diarrhea. No new treats and he hasn't gotten into anything inside or outside the house.

I'm going to be getting pumpkin tomorrow when I pick up my glasses tomorrow.

Try giving him a little bit of pumpkin for a few days and see if that clears it up.

I would almost venture to say it is the switch of foods that is not agreeing with him.

Sometimes the shots will cause this but it would be within hours after you would notice the diarrhea

It probably is the food.  HOWEVER, there was a virus going around.  My 11 year old wouldn't eat, had the runny poop, and he also threw up a couple of times.  The girls also had a couple of days of runny poop, but no throwing up that I know of.   KayCee ate normally, but Honey only picked at her food for a couple of days.

Just as something to keep in mind...I have pumpkin on hand always here for Bubby and Ollie,,,but when Ollie had a REAL problem with diarrhea a few times,,, the pumpkin really didn't work.  It works great when his stools were a little soft,,,even after medication and all. but when he had a bug and runny stools,,,we needed more than pumpkin.  We used pepto bismol!

I have been giving Blue pumpking and Endosorb tablets (got from the vet in Nov. when he diarrhea then). He is doing alot better today. Yesterday he was really feeling bad he wanted to be in your lap wanting you to rub his poor tummy, and if he wasn't in your lap he was curled up on the bed with Teddy.

This is the first time in three days that he has ate anything and he was even running around in the yard just a few mintues ago.  So I'm crossing my fingers tight that he is getting better.

I just wish my camera had some batteries you would have loved the sight of Blue after I feed him pumkin since it's on his face and drops every where around him.  Since I have to spoon it in his mouth becuz he wont eat it on his own and plus he has not been eating.

I just came back from the Vet with Winston, because he had similar symptoms.  His poop was like an egg white, and we brought some to the vet for an examination.  The Vet gave him a shot for the vomiting and diahrea, a shot for his fever and we left with pills and Hill's prescription food.  When we got home I had to manually give him the pill and he still won't eat or drink.  Oh, the Vet also gave him fluids "under the skin" because he was dehydrated.  I hope this is the virus you are all referring to, I would hate to think it is anything else more serious.
Here is my question - what do I do if he still doesn't eat or drink anything??  At what point should I freak out? Or take him back to the Vet?

Did the vet send you home with supplies?  SHOW you how to do subq fluids?

Vet sent me home with the pills and the food, but that's it.  They injected fluids under his skin so he has a mini hunchback they said would rehydrate him.  But I have no idea how to do  "subq fluids."
Glenda - a quick question while I know you're here - whenever I feed my puppy "real food" he won't eat his kibble at the next feeding.  If I mix some chicken with his kibble, he'll eat around the kibble.  How do you get your dogs to eat whatever you give them???

I would suggest you go to your vet and pick up one of those(forgive me not sure what they're called) It's a little plastic thing and when your dog goes you collect a sample. Those tests only take a couple of hours and maybe they can run some blood work? See if they have an in house lab that way you won't have to wait a few days. Hope he gets better :)

I'm a hard a$$ed bitch about it. [:D] If they don't eat what they are given, I pick the bowl up and they wait for the next meal time.  Now with MINE, a refusal to eat is cause for alarm and I pay close attention to make sure they are not getting sick.  Sheba will occassionally skip  a meal, but ONLY kibble, and if she doesn't eat it, I put it up.  And she waits to eat until the next meal.  I wasn't a short order cook for my kids and I refuse to be for my dogs either!

A stool sample.  I would think that they would do one to test for giardia, among other things...

My dogs had giardia- nasty little one-celled organism!

Glenda -hahahaha - thank you - I'll try to be a bit "harder" and see if it works.

We are currently waiting for the results of the stool sample, they said they would have it this afternoon - but if they didn't call by 5, then the stool was fine.  The stool sample I gave them was an egg white consistancey - gross - but they said it was enough to test.  I send my pup to day camp at Petsmart, and if this IS a virus, I'm going to call them to alert them in the event that any other dogs are ill - or maybe find a source.  Thanks everyone!!

Well Blue is back to his old self. No accidents in the house today and he didn't poop so far today that I saw. Running around the house and bouncing at times. I'm going to wait a few days before taking up the wee wee pads in the dining room.

    Yeah!!

I am so glad he is feeling better. Did you ever figure out what the cause was?

BTW, I loved your bath time pictures of Blue and Kitties. They were wonderful. Kudo's to you for bathing Kitties and living to tell the story! LOL
