    Bleeding :-(

    Hi everybody,
I have 2 lovely Labs - 13 months old boys, Jake and Bruno, both neutered. Something wrong with Bruno. Sometimes in the morning before he gets up he has very strong erection and it's bleeding. He was tested by vet, they found crystals in his urine. Last 3 weeks I give him prescription food, looks like it doesn't help. I think he is bleeding because of erection, not crystals. He is still very active, happy, playful and always hungry [:)]
Please let me know what you think about that (I don't have any experience as a dog owner, they are my first dogs).
I am looking now for a best vet in my area. We live in Fremont, CA. Any suggestion?

(Sorry about my English, this is my second language)

I don't have a lot to offer, but you didn't say how much bleeding. The erection should not cause bleeding, however, you did say these were your first dogs, and erections are quite red.  I would call the vet back or talk with another vet.

Hi irinavk and welcome to i-dog. Like "owned by dogs" said, erections are red and the penis may appear to be bleeding when it's actually not. Is blood actually dripping from the penis? Unneutered male dogs can bleed from the penis because of prostrate disease, but that wouldn't apply to your dog. If your dog still has a sex drive and mastubates by mounting something, he can injure his penis that way and cause it to bleed. Good luck and let us know how he does.

I don't know how much bleeding, because he leaks it non stop. But I can see few little blood marks on his bed (yesterday it was one big spot) and on the floor. Penis never comes out, but it is big and stiff inside. He doesn't want to get up in the morning and when he walks I can see it hurts[:(]
We have an appointment with vet for tomorrow. I hope he will help...

Poor guy! That sounds very uncomfortable! I hope the vet can figure out what's going on.

I hope that he didn't bite his winkie. We had another girl on here a while back and her dog had the same problem. She discovered that he did chomp down on it.
    OUCH!!!!

    Irinavk,
Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear your boy isn't feeling well.

I suggest you do get to the vet, if the penis is swollen and blood is leaking/dripping it could be a problem with the prostrate. This can be a very serious issue.

    Please keep us posted

I would also say it is a serious issue as Jaime said. If they found crystals in his urine, it could also be kidney stones with a block uretha. Please let us know what is going on and what the vet said.

We are crossing all paws and have your boy in our prayers for a diagnosis that will be easily treated.

Bruno is doing much better now!
Vet didn't find crystals anymore, that prescription food helped. And there is no bleeding since last Sunday! Vet found bruse on Bruno's penis, he thinks it's a result of leaking.
So now when Bruno wakes up I pet him, kiss him (who said dogs don't like it? :-) ) and hold his head. He might leak it when we are at work, but I think he doesn't have time for that -
too busy playing with his brother Jake and destroing the house :-)

Irina,  I'm really late on this one.  I'm glad to hear your dog is doing much better.  If for some reason you don't like the vet you have I highly recommend Dr. Deborah Rue at Irvington Pet Hospital.....

    p.s. I work there. [sm=happy.gif]
