Now that is pretty dang FURRY....  bah hahahahaaaa
    • Gold Top Dog
what a way to start off the day - full of laughter!

Ye furry old wise one... that's a good one!

Any recs on a good fur eating vacuum? Going out today to but a new one since we now have wall to wall fur instead of carpet.
(note to self - next time, choose carpet color to match dogs fur)

I have a filter queen, a lot of folks swear by the Dyson.

Our carpeting in the main part of the house is beige...yuck....but gsds have a predominantly WHITE undercoat so the bulk of what's shedding is white, and no way I'd wnat a WHITE carpet.

I have a Dyson - I swear by it.  I've tried Kirby - works good but too cumbersome and expensive.  Filter Queen is nice but haven't tried one out since I've had so much fur to deal with.

Honestly, the Dyson rocks.  At my house, I find I have to blow out the whole canister section every now and then because we end up with so much dust and dirt in here it's ridiculous.  But, when I pull out the Dyson, no fur ball remains unsucked.  I use it on everything including my Newf's bed - sucks it clean like nothing I've ever used.  My best friend bought a Kirby and now she wishes she bought a Dyson instead.

What I've found with most great vacuum cleaners is they work pretty good for the dog's fur, but, that fine persian kitty fur sticks on/in everything.  Dyson has served me well in that department.  And, it has yet to clog up on us - that is remarkable for this house.  You know a Newfoundland coat, right?  Yeah - that will clog up nearly any vacuum - not the Dyson.

We did buy the purple one for animal fur - I don't know how well the regular Dyson would handle it all.

We're quite sick about our Dyson - border line cult like [&:].  Ok, I'm off to see my shrink now.

I know that I said that we don't have a very critical fur situation in our house. But I did get a dyson(the regular yellow one) when our old vacuum cleaner was getting old. Wow it really made a difference. I didn't realize how much our old vaccum didn't suck(pun intended;o))!!!!

Its actually fun to vacuum. I also found the dyson to be well designed and it doesn't hurt my back and is very easily maneuvered!

Glenda, I can't even imagine all those GSD's and the hair. Of my three, the GSD is by FAR the worst shedder. That undercoat goes all year long! I can brush her every single day and there's still more hair. I don't know how she can produce that much!

I know others with GSD's who say the same thing. It's a good thing you don't have allergies!
    • Gold Top Dog
Sheepishly admits that she does have allergies....lots of them!!

Honestly, I don't find the regular shedding to be all that bad.  Everyone gets a good brushing....outside....a few times a week and a couple of them LIKE to be vacumed.  It's this dreadful Spring shed that is the absolute worst!!

DS sent me a couple pairs of socks that look furry for Christmas and DH would joke about my furry feet....I'd tell him I was just trying to fit it around here....now, however, EVERYTHING is furry!  Heck I can take a tissue out of the box and have to shake the danged fur off it!!

LOL, here, too! It's really the cats that affect us the most, though...

Furry tissue! Well, someone has finally got me beat!

Well, I'm down to FOUR cats now.......

I WISH I could get Sheba and Tyler to stay downstairs more and give me a break from the fur.  But, we're still working through Tylers fear of the other boys...when he came home and wasn't very healthy the others sensed it and picked on him so we bring THEM up here most of the time, a couple at a time, and snot Sheba will NOT stay where I'm not  and leaps the 4 foot fence like it isn't there to get back to mom.......

I really NEED to buy stock in benedryl...this time of year I LIVE on it.

    Glenmar, back to the Dyson...
We just got one, & it's awesome....
You would not believe how deep this vacuum cleans!!!

Fell in love with the Dyson, unfortunately my wallet did not. Ended up getting a steal of a deal on a great vacuum. Sucks the hair right up into a cup(turns out the Oriental rug is navy blue, not red fur). I almost died when I saw what it picked up (and this was the same day after I borrowed the neighbors vac to do the rug that morning).

Bought a Bissel Clean View Revolution Plus or something like that. I went to get the Bissel machine as it was advertised on sale for $59.99. Dragged it to the other end of the store (where is the help when you need it?), got to the check out counter to pay and they said "That's 139.00 ;please." I almost had a stroke... meekly saying "but it's on sale".

Turns out I had the wrong one, and the sale item was out of stock. The boy looks at my foot (still in the boot thing) and then looks at my mother in a back brace. {we are a motley crew, eh?}Anyway he says "I'll give it to you half off". I wipped out that Visa so fast it smoked! $70 bucks and I practically ran out the store before they realized what they had done!

It is awesome - sure beats that 15 year old vacuum  that had finally gave up the ghost! I have never been so happy to clean[:)

Now if I could only get Tyler to hold still so I could vac him - funny he doesn't "do" vacuum cleaners (they eat dog's tails you know)

Thor actually LIKEs to be vacumed.  Sheba tries really hard to let me vacume her, but she hates it....she tries tho. Tyler is terrified of the vacume (thanks "forever" home...he wasn't when he left here) and the other three will allow varying amounts of it.  However, with the amount of fur here lately, I'm not sure the Filter Queen could stand up to daily vacs!!  Off to brush the dogs, again.  Sigh.
    • Gold Top Dog
Tyler let me vac him at first but my sister (she has MR) decide to vac him one day to "be helpful" because I had been bit**ing about having hair in my coffee again.

She used the upright vac like you would for the carpets - the beater bar business end! Needless to say, Tyler did not particularly care for it. All of a sudden my shower cutain is ripped down, I had a bleeding tailed Tyler in with me, and Sara crying "it wasn't my fault, he wouldn't hold still!"

I still laugh to this day - no wonder he heads for the hills whenever he sees me drag out 'the tail eating monster'!

You think you have fur!  Try THREE golden retrieves, also better known as Shedding Machines!  When we got two new rocker/recliners a couple of weeks ago, we fell in love with the Hunter Green, which would be SOOOOO perfect in our livingroom with all my pictures and plates of goldens, ducks, wildlife, etc and a Hunter Green counter top on the bar at the end.  But alas, we knew they would  never look Hunter's Green.  I considered dying the dogs Hunter's Green, but decided against that, so we got a light brown with gold worked into it.

I'll see your three goldens and raise you six german shedders.....
