    Sick Dog

My 6 mo. old puppy has been throwing up foamy vomit.  He's done this before but it's usually once and about once a month (at the most).  But today he's thrown up  4 times (2 times they were a yellow color).  I'm thinking it was probably just something he ate (he likes to chew on sticks).  Is there anything I can give him to calm his stomach?

Will he eat?  some chamomille tea might settle his stomach.  (yep, just plain old cham. tea made from the tea bags at the grocery store).

How many times a day do you feed him?  Does he throw up dog food?  that may indicate his tummy got too empty -- don't let him chew on sticks - because if there is pesticide on it that could upset his tummy in a BIG Way.

He is eating.  I free feed him, so he eats whenever he gets hungry (he gets the recommended amount in a day though).

He didn't throw up any food, it was just foam.

Chammille tea?  Huh, never would have thought about that.  Just follow the instructions on the box?

Chamomille tea -- just add a teabag to a cup and pour in boiling water.  Let it steep and cool.  Rip open the bag and add the herbs to his dinner.

But honestly, if I can do anything here -- PLEASE don't free feed -- particularly when you have a dog with digestive problems.  First off -- would YOU want food that had been just sitting around all day?  Probably not.

But the reality is, they either eat too much or too little, and the big down side is that you can't tell how MUCH they've eaten or when, so if they do throw up food, you haven't got a clue how long that stuff was in his stomach (and there are a lot of problems where that kind of information is absolutely critical).

When you free feed you don't have any idea when the dog really is off its food -- is it just that he hasn't eaten YET?

I used to free feed ... and honestly I wouldn't ever go back to it.  You can tell SO many health problems just by how a dog eats, knowing exactly how long he's had food in his stomach and how much.

I'm not telling you that you are awful ... please don't misunderstand.  But especially when you have a dog with a history, already, of throwing up (which isn't good), and now you have a dog that is more ill -- being totally aware of what they ate, when and how much can be such vital information and it can be such a gauge as to when your dog is really sick.

It doesn't take long to acclimate them to supervised feeding - you put the food down and stand there and then pick it up after 10 minutes if it's not gone.  The dog won't starve but they learn quick to eat while it is there.
