    Phew! Sheba finally ate!

Man, this has been a rough week all the way around.

The last day that Sheba ate normally was Tuesday.  And without me here at dinner time she wasn't thrilled about eating dinner......Wed she ate a bit of her kibble, but threw it all up later on and didn't eat a bite all day yesterday...well, yeah she did eat a little yesterday morning cuz DS coaxed her to and promptly threw THAT up as well.  So, talked to the vet who said, well, give her until Friday and if she doesn't start eating something, bring her in.  Her regular vet is on vacation and I really didn't want to take her in since she's a bit reactive, but you've gotta do what you gotta do.....

She took maybe two bites of chicken and rice last nite....and then this morning she decided it was WONDERFUL.  I only gave her a small amount, just enough to put something in her tummy and will give her more in a couple hours.

I think that one of two things happened....either she worked herself up so with my being gone for so many hours on Tuesday that she messed up her system, OR she dug up the chicken neck that she buried last week and that was a bit much for her system.  While it could be either, I'm betting on the former.  She gets majorly upset when I'm gone.

If my dogs were free fed, or if I didn't feed separately, I might have missed these important clues.  Fact is, she's ok now and playing with Tyler, but she could have been SERIOUSLY ill and I might have missed the first sign...not eating...if I didn't do things the way that I do.

She didn't happen to have runny poop did she?   Friday Buck had runny poop.  Saturday morning he wouldn't eat breakfast.  Instead of following me everywhere, he spent the entire day on the diningroom floor.  He had no fever, nose was cool and wet, eyes clear, etc.  i called my vet--closed for the holidays.  later in the afternoon i did cook a little chicken breast and rice and he ate abut 2/3 of it, which wasn't much as i idn't cook much.  Still had runny poop.

Sunday he again turned down breakfast and I put his thyroid pill in bread and got him to eat it, but it came right back up with yellow foam.  I stayed home from church and called son and said I wouldn't be over for Easter Dinner.  Around noon I did an egg in microwave and he did eat it.  About mid afternoon he started acting better.  That night I did more chicken and rice and he ate it. and was almost his old self.

Monday morning he scarfed breakfast and was back to following me around, bumping me as I sat at the puter--wants attention-- etc.  I told his story on several boards and it seems several dogs had the same kind of thing happen to them.

But at any rate, I am glad you Sheba is doing better.

    Nope, her poop was fine.

I think dogs are a lot smarter than we give them credit for tho....she knew her tummy was upset so she didn't eat because she didn't want to make it worse.  Gotta tell you tho, I was THRILLED to see her finally eat this morning!
