Epitheliotropic lymphoma aka: mycosis fungoides

My rescued Westie, real age unknown but thought to be 11 or 12, was just diagnosed with this disease. We have been fighting ongoing allergies and demodex mites then the dermatologist noticed the loss of pigmentation around his eyes and mouth. They did biopsys and they were all positive. One route to take is to give him 25 mg of Soritane. It cost $750. for a one month supply. I am not sure with his sensative stomach if he can even take it. I have had no luck in finding a pharmacy who will just sell me 5 or 10 to see if he can use it. They have to buy the entire month's supply. Has anyone's dog on this board used this drug? Mulligan is terminal but the drug could put him into remission for a year or so.

I believe you are refering to Soriatane rather than Soritane.

ETA: Neotigason appears to be the drug name in Australia and New Zealand.

You can get it much cheaper then that. In los angeles, it is $570 for a one month supply of the 25mg caps, I just called two pharmacies. If you decide to try it get the script from your vet and shop around for a better price. I bet you could get it even lower online

I'm sorry your poor pup is going through this. For people we give chemo, is this an option for dogs? Some protocols have great responses,

What about ordering thru a Canadian pharmacy? Older people in America do it to save money and I am sure their are links with lists of "reputable" pharmacies.

I am sorry that you and he are going thru this awful ordeal.

Thank you for the correct spelling and the information. I asked the vet about Canada and he says they have a medical doctor on staff at the pharmacys there which prescribe drugs online but no vet so they won't do prescriptions from vets. I called around to other pharmacies in our area (South Alabama) and the price is about the same. Mulligan has been poked on and scraped so much this past year he has gotten so grouchy and is very hard to handle thus we promised him that we wouldn't put him through any really harsh chemo procedures. I still have mixed emotions about giving him anything that can make him sick. Right now he is eating well and enjoys his evening walk even though we have had to shorten it a good bit. We are going to start him on Safflower Oil when we come from a trip in about 10 days. There has been some response with this to help with the quality of life not the quantity. This is basically what we are striving for. Thanks so much...

My thoughts are with you, I'm sorry to hear this news.
What about seeing a holistic vet perhaps for other treatment options (?) Or maybe a traditional vet who practices integtrated medicine and alternative therapies. It's just a thought.

Also, it's just a thought but a second opinion may be helpful.

All breeds can be effected, it's just that the Airedale folks have really done a lot to get the info out to the public. The treatment is used by holistic vets such as Carvel Tiekert (founder of AHVMA) as well as tradional vets.
It may be something to look into.
