Does anyone know what flea protection would be safe for my dog and not bother my rabbit?

Do the rabbit and dog sleep together? Do they have a lot of physical contact? If so, you may want to consult a vet who is familiar with small animals and ask about any issues any of the flea protection products could cause your rabbit.

I am a little surprised how you conclude that from medicine A being not safe for animal 1, it also will not be safe for animal 2. Would that not also mean it cannot be safe for animal 3 - that is, us?

I am confident that for any flea prevention you can find animal species that do not tolerate it. That says nothing about the safety of the medication for other species. I belief K9 Advantix on your dog to be safe for your rabbit (I trust the rabbit won't eat the dog!).

As a matter of fact, K9 Advantix on your dog is safe for your rabbit. It is unsafe for cats because a cat cannot break down an ingredient, with poisonous consequences. That problem does not exist for rabbits (there are few rabbits that habitually lick dogs anyhow [] ). In very high dosages it can irritate the skin a little bit, but that goes for most animals - including your dog - and most medications (try any medication in quantities exceeding the recommended dosage).

I thought it was bad do to size of animal...I did not know...so I thought I would ask...the only bad question is the one not asked....Right?   I don't claim to know all thats why I ask alot of questions,lol

Firestorm, I would call a vet to doublecheck myself, rabbits have such sensitive skin.We rescued a rabbit from some people quite a while ago that took terrible care of it, it was starving and full of fleas .Took it to the vet ,and if I remember correctly, he said the only flea stuff safe for rabbits was Advantage, I don't know if the Advantix has the same ingredients[same company I think].I know frontline is not safe for rabbits.

It has nothing to do with the size of the animal. It's perfectly safe for small dogs (my dogs weigh less than a lot of cats I know). It has to do with the way cats' livers work. Cats are funny creatures. 

Firestorm, what kind of rabbit do you have?  I had a regular back rabbit that we trained to use the litter box, walk on leash (wht harness) and he was something else.  After he died I got a mini lopearred and had him for 10 years.  he was also a special bunny.

I have a dwarf rabbit.  I asked the vet if the K9 advantix was safe around my rabbit and he said yes.  Well after putting it on Harley, Gladrial the rabbit started sneezing like crazy....so Gladrial went to my daughters room for the rest of yesterday and last night.  The vet was wrong about it not bugging my rabbit.  That has me a bit ticked.  I am just glad I caught her  sneezing early before she could have gotten worse.   But Gladrial and Harley get along great.  Glady was in her cage and started sneezing...so it wasn't like he was in full contact with her...needless to say I will not use the K9 advantix again.  My poor lil bunny.

Is the vet a rabbit vet? How many rabbits a year does he see? If he's not a rabbit vet, you should be ticked with yourself. Most vets know little about rabbits. It's really easy to kill a rabbit with improper care. The wrong antibiotic, slight mishandling, and surgical error, even a GROOMING error can kill a rabbit. They're far more sensitive than dogs, by  any standards.

He does see alot of rabbits, as well as dogs, cats and ferrets.  I don't know how many but there were 5 in the office the day I was there.  A friend of mine uses him and she has 30 of them.

Hi, Asthefurflies, does this product effect to repel flea, ticks?  My boy doesn't have the problem now, so I prefer something can stop any insect to jump onto him.  How long have you been using it for your pets?  Thanks.

It repels fleas, ticks, mosquitos, gnats/no-seeums. I've been using it about a month now. Like I mentioned in my OP, my dogs don't have many problems w/fleas because of their diets but they haven't seemed to have any problems w/other biting insects and I haven't seen a tick anywhere. My outdoor cat is the one that gets ticks but then he goes out in the woods and doesn't come home for days. That was before I started using this on him. I haven't seen any ticks on him recently.  I'll know better how it works once the rainy season gets here and there are loads of mosquitos.
