    Eating Soap

Just wondered if anyone's had trouble with their dog eating Dove soap. This evening Madeleine decided to enjoy half of a bar of Dove soap. She's vomited once and is more than a little lethargic. She's still breathing [;)] and just wants to sleep. I'm thinking she's alright, but just wondered if anyone knows anything about the toxicity of Dove. Thanks for your help!

Personally, I'd be calling somone....either an emergency vet or the poison center. Half of bar,,,sounds like a lot to me.  I supposed my dog (Great Dane) eating a half of bar might be a lot different than a small dog,,,but gee, I'd be finding out.

Geri, I also would be calling someone to find out more information. Like Dyan said, Great Dane eating half a bar, maybe no biggy, but a small dog eating a half a bar of soap..... NOT a good thing to me either.
Please call your vet or someone ASAP.
Hope the little one pull through and is feeling better in no time.

Thanks to Dyan and forpaws for their advice (unheeded, but welcomed, since it pointed out the potential severity of the problem). Since Maddie was feeling better by bedtime, we decided to opt out of calling the vet. She had vomited only once, but quite a lot, and was feeling better after only a couple of hours. She slept through the night and was running around and happy this morning (ornery as ever!). She seems to have fully recovered. While I wouldn't recommend any being eating soap on purpose, Dove seems to be only mildly disruptive to the system, at least Maddie's. [:D]

Thank goodness it all ended well.   I know dogs like to lick soap suds from your skin while taking a shower, but eating a bar of soap, yuk!

I don't know what attacts dogs to soap, but Grey's a soap dog too. At least it freshened his breath. LOL

Our Roscoe has eaten a couple bars. Of course I didn't know until I wondered where the soap went? [sm=uhoh.gif] I caught him in the act probably about the 3rd or 4th time. He is a big dog about 120 lbs. He has eaten a lot of "things."
Soap is made with tallow. (animal fat)
