    Red Bump on leg!

My one yr old Mini Schnauzer have a pea-size red bump on his rear leg (near his paw).
What is it !?! Gonna go to the vet asap. But how should i treat it now?

Also, he constantly licks the red bump. Is that bad?

The vet will take care of the bump. But if he tells you that your dog needs to stop licking it, try an Elizabethan collar or a homemade "collar" that uses a towel around the dog's neck fastened with duct tape.

There are several more comfortable alternatives to the standard Elizabethan-style collar:

My husky had something similiar once. The vet said not to worry and leave it on unless the dog starts licking it. She did, of course, and the vet removed it. No biggy - it wasn't harmful, just a skin tag type thing. But, she licked at the sore after surgery while I was at work and it got infected. So keep an eye on your dog. You definitly don't the dog licking that spot.
