Hi -- if you will email me I will send you my article. Bostons are prone to demodex. The problem is the 'medicine' is probably ivermectin -- and this ultimately actually supresses the immune system further (it keeps the immune system from really developing well on its own depending on how much and how often it's given).
Demodex IS an immune problem. Plain and simple.
Is your dog altered yet? With a demodex dog that's got to happen as soon as possible. The problem will worsen and worsen until sexual maturation (and then it gets REALLY bad) -- and if you go ahead and spay it will halt the onset of sexual maturation. Don't let her go into heat -- it's part and parcel of what's making it worsen.
There's a lot in the article I'll send you on boosting the immune system -- essentially there are three things you have to do:
1. Keep the mites out of the skin (you can do this with a little bathing regime I've kind of developed -- you don't have to use poison or anything that's harmful at all -- it's all stuff you can get at Wal-Mart actually) and that can be accomplished with frequent bathing and a rinse afterward wtih tea tree oil and water that will help avoid staph skin infection and it also repels mites.
2. Boost the immune system (that gets complicated -- herbals work really really well -- but you also need to be doing vitamins/supplements so you don't just boost the immune system *today* but you help the immune system be 'better' and change on a cellular level as well.)
3. Avoid triggers -- things that will make the demodex worse -- things like vaccines, stresses -- it can be as simple as a weather change or a change at home, or it can be a big thing like sexual maturation or even teething.
The article isn't short - it's like 23 pages but it will help you. I'm just a lady who has loved several demodex dogs -- I don't sell anything. There is NO magic cure -- but there are things you can do (with a lot of hard work, good food, and good care) that will help the body be better than it could be otherwise and to urge the body to develop WELL and overcome the demodex ultimately.
