    my beagle has Ehrlichia

My beagle was diagnosed with ehrlichia a few days ago. at first, the vet thought he had a sprained sholder, but 2 days later he started having horrible pains in his hip as well, and was in pretty bad pain

we got the blood work back a few days ago, and it told us he had this disease. the vet said that they think they caught it early enough that he should recover. he will have to be on antibiotics for a month.

right now he is on his antibiotic, pain killers, an anti inflamitory, and his thyroid medicine (which he always takes anyways). about 2 days after we got the diagnosis, he had already started acting much better. we are trying to keep him from moving around too much, but his energy level has been back up and its hard to keep him from following his nose wherever it may lead. as my father had discribed it, the gleam in his eyes is back.

so everything has been well for a few days now. hes still on limited movement, still taking his medicine regularly

tonight he started having really bad pain again. i heard him yelp loud, he started limping, and panting (which the vet said would be his main way of showing pain). it just breaks my heart to see my little guy hurting so much

i was wondering if anyone here would know if this is something to be expected, or if we should take this as the medicine isnt working/hes getting worse.

does anyone have any experiance with treating a dog whos had this, or any similar tick borne illnesses? will he have lapses of pain over the next month until his med routine is up, or is this a sign the disease may have progressed too far?

im so worried about him! thanks everyone for reading, and please keep Chandler in your thoughts

Welcome to the forum; There are some members here who have had experience with illnesses caused by ticks; I *think* Callie does, and she should be along with some great information. I noticed that you posted this yesterday; is he still having pain; if so, I think you should give the vet a call and ask if there's any reason to be worried.
