Dog suddenly wants to eat more, also throwing up

My dog, a 2 year old pug/shih tzu mix, seems to be starving all the time suddenly.  I normally feed 1/2 a cup twice a day of potato and duck for allergies......but all of a sudden he's starving and drives me crazy until I feed him a little more.  He's also been very demanding when we are eating dinner wanting our food.  Besides all of this, every morning like clockwork, he starts swallowing and licking his lips (a warning sign that he is going to throw up) and then throws up bile.  Not much, but for about the past week or so this has been happening.  Any ideas?

Throwing up bile in the morning is usually indicative of an empty stomach.  I would suggest feeding him a bit more, or giving him a treat before bedtime to tide him over.  For what its worth, my shih tzu eats more during the winter months--in the summer, he averages about 310 calories a day, and in the winter he takes in about 400 calories a day----he does not gain weight during the winter--he just burns more energy.

Hmm very interesting, thanks for the idea.  I'll try that tonight and see how he does.  He is known for finding things he shouldn't have and chewing them up (loves my sons plastic little people dolls) so I'm wondering if maybe he's trying to get rid of something in his belly but still nothing.  Although if that were the case you'd think he wouldn't be extra hungry.  Thanks again, I'll try feeding him a little more today!

Bile vomit can be an indication of a lot of things. Have you thought about gastritis? Maybe your pup has a sensitive GI tract. Also...when is the last time you dewormed? This happens from time to time with one of my dogs..and it usually goes away after I have dewormed. I would double check the food you are feeding with your vet and see what they recommend.

Given the list of stuff you've mentioned, honestly I'd have the vet look at him.  JUST SUPPOSE ... if the dog HAD eaten something, like a piece of a plastic toy, and was *partially* obstructed it could cause some tummy problems and he could be partly trying to eat more in an inate attempt to make the hurt go away.

It's not necessarily so, but I would honestly think a vet visit and a good exam is in order.  ANY TIME a dog's behavior or needs change abruptly -- it's time for a vet check.
