    swollen neck gland

    Hi,

This is my first post.  My 3 year old Cavalier woke up yelping this morning.  When I pet her on her neck area, she yelped again.  I felt a swollen lymph node on her left lower jaw/neck area.  Should I bring her to  vet right away??

    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

get the pup check...usually swollen gland is fronm a tooth ot ear infection...and if it hurts then there is a problem

It could also be a tick born disease that can cause lymph nodes to swell. Yes, vet checked is in order here, not normal for the gland to be swollen like that.
Please let us know what your vet said.

We took Lady to a vet yesterday.  Heartworm test was negative.  She had temp of 103.5 so they gave her IM injection of IV fluid on her shoulder area. (I never heard of this treatment before.  She had this big lump around that area)

She's on antibiotics for the next 28 days with 4 days treatment of antiinflamatory med.

We were informend that if this swollen gland does not resolve, or if other nodes start to swell, needle biopsy might be needed to rule out cancer.

She still does not act normal and seems to have increased temp.

How do you know her temp has increased? Did you take her temp? If it has risen, get her temp down by applying cold packs under her arm pits and call your vet to get their advice. They may want her back NOW.

I did not take her temp this morning, but she was warm to touch.  At lunch time, she was better.
I've been giving her ice chips, but will try applying ice packs as you mentioned.

    Thanks for youe reply.

You cannot just by touch alone. Take her temp. If it has risen, please take her back to the vet's for medical attention. High temps can be very dangerous and deadly.

Not fun when you fur baby is sick. Poor little thing. Give her kisses from me.

    Forpaws,

You're sooo right about that.  I will take her temperature when I get home.

What's the normal temperature for 3 year old dog?
    • Gold Top Dog
I think it is 102. degrees which is the norm. Hope she is ok and gets better soon.

Lady seems to be back to her normal self.  No temp, running around, eating, drinking well.

I'm so happy!!  She will complete her antibiotics and hopefully she will be completely healed from whatever ailed her.

    Thanks for your replies forpaws.
