    Soy for flaky skin

My female golden retiever, Dilly, had extremely flaky, itchy skin. I took her to vets to be told she had allergies and spent alot of money on vet bills. She's a little over two and has only had one heat cycle so thought I'd try giving her some soy suppliments that I was taking. After 1  1/2 months we noticed no more flakes, in fact her coat was getting so nice and soft. She used to have flakes of skin some the size of a quarter and when I brushed her there would be flakes all over. Also she had lumps of skin under her arm pits That no amount of brushing could get rid of. I give her 1500 mg. of soy a day. I just throw it in with her food and she gobbles them right down with her food.

I think that soy can actually cause allergic reactions in dogs (hence why alot of dogs are allergic to soy products).  I would try fish oil or derma caps if you can't see the vet. What food are you feeding?

Actually, soy is just one of many common allergens (including chicken, corn, wheat, and grasses). Dogs can have allergic reactions to anything. Literally.

Not only for animals either- "I" am severely allergic to soy. When I got my allergy test, that was the one that was the worst known allergen, second was ragweed and third was cats.
I must limit my chinese food, it's soo hard to find foods that have no soy in it- it's all about soybean oil and cultured soy or whatever.
