Bogey's doing better with shots !

Bogey seems to be doing better now that she's been getting allergy shots for about 6 weeks. But, I know it takes 4-9 months, so we were told. We had a huge snow a couple weeks ago and she totally stopped chewing her toes and now that it's melted and the grass is back, she's chewing a bit again. I want a snow ONLY for my doggie. But, we can tell that the allergy shots are helping.

So happy to hear that the allergy shots are helping Jenny. I do think it can take some time, but hopefully by spring Bogey will be well on the way to problem free season. I know what you mean about wishing for snow, or in our case a cold snap is the best we get. I really hate winter and cold weather, but at least Sassy seems to have less problems, so that's a good thing.

thanks for your good wishes, Cathy. I, too, hope by Spring Bogey will be better. It is in the 40's-50's here which is unusual as it's supposed to be in the 30's with snow. But even with the 40's-50's, she seems to be itching less and less-with the help of the shots. Glad that your Sassy is better, too ! ! !

It would be interesting to see if the itching stops when her feet are covered with booties...if it is strickly contact dermatitis the booties would help but if it is inhalation they would do nothings...I'm not saying to try this its just my inquisitive mind speculating

I am so happy for you. The shots did wonders for Trudy. I saw a difference in weeks and after months, it was even better. They can still have bad itch days when the pollen count is way up, but wow, we are so happy with the results.

I've thought about the booties and will probably end up getting her some. I'm sure it would help. Even if it is contact AND inhalation, it would help her not chew on her feet so much on a bad day.

And Sally, thanks for all the help when I was going through the testing and all. I got really used to giving her the shots and now it's no big deal and she doesn't seem to mind at all - which helps me feel better about giving them. And I know that there will be bad days, like you said, but they're bearable now that we know we're helping her and we'll just give her Benadryl on those days, too. How often do you give Trudy the shots now? We're in the process of a shot every 3 weeks for another couple weeks and then once a month until late April then we go back to the vet for more serum and a re-check.

Trudy still gets a shot every week. She is a really hard case, but it is going great for her. We saw her derm. last month. He wants to keep doing everything we are doing. I just can't believe how well she is doing!

I'm very happy for you and Bogie; we saw some improvement within a few weeks and Jessie kept making gradual progress. She's getting a shot twice a month now but during the summer she may need to go to weekly shots; she did last summer from July through September, but she tested very high for several pollens and indoor allergens. If Bogie's doing well getting a shot every 3 weeks that's great. [
