Ear Infection

    Ear Infection

Honey was shaking her head and walking around with it tilted to the left part of the time.  Called my vet first thing this morning and got an appointment to bring her in.  Sure enough it was a deep infection.  There is no sign of it on the outer part of the ear, no red or even pink, no wax or gunk.  He had to look down in her ear to see the redness and swollen area.  Gave her an injection and put her on antibiotic ear drops for 2 weeks.  My dear sweet vet charged me for the meds, minus my senior discount, but didn't charge me for the visit, a Christmas present.

A few years ago KayCee had a deep ear infection like this--no sign or indication of it as far as looking at the ear and the outer part of her ear canal.  But it was also so deep and caused her to have a vertigo episode, in fact this was the first hint of anything wrong, i thought she was having a seizure.  Just goes to show a dog can have an ear infection without any bad smell, gunky ear, or even redness that you can see.

Good call lady!!! Yes, and the most dangerous ear infections often don't show, exactly like this.  Because there is no head-shaking, etc. it's easy to not pursue it and that infection just hangs there, making them hurt (and man it DOES hurt) and eventually can either harden the ear canals (so you can't get rid of the infection at all then) and can even go into meningitis.

    Good luck!!

It's really good that you took her in. Seems like she's determined to worry you ; first the wallet and now this.[;)]
