    Aaaugh!!! DIARRHEA! Parvo with vaccine?

Now I'm scared. I posted on the nutrition page a few days ago about my cocker, Piper having diarrhea. Everyone gave great suggestions on helping him through it, and it seemed like everything was getting better - I'm feeding him boiled rice and chicken, I've given him a bit of pumpkin, his feces were more solid today and I was thinking we weren't going to need to see the vet after all (its been 3 days). I'm so close to crying right now - there was blood in his feces this last bowel movement. He's been vaccinated against parvo...I thought that meant that he wouldn't get it!!! I'm so freaked out and upset I don't know what to do. Of course I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow with a stool sample.
My first dog died of parvo when he was 9 years old - it was horrible horrible horrible. He was out of his mind sick before my dad would take him to the vet and instead of helping him through it, my parents decided to have him put down. I know parvo doesn't have to be fatal but it is painful and awful and I'm so scared for Piper. Is there anything else it could possibly be? A parasite perhaps? Please help....

Hang on -- lots of things can cause blood in the poop - YES< get to a vet tomorrow.  But don't have a panic attack totally yet.  First MAKE SURE you keep this contained.  After each bowel movement be meticulous about cleaning it up and dump bleach on it (yes it is heck on the lawn but be safe here).  Wear rubber gloves and leave your shoes outside (don't walk inside with those shoes and don't go elsewhere with those shoes on AT ALL -- i.e., leave your shoes that may be contaminated outside in a container and make a container of bleach water to rinse your own shoes off before you come in).  Better take precautions today and not need them tomorrow.

But this could be a lot of things -- from giardia to inflammatory bowel disease, to ... lots of things.

So yes, get to the vet and CALL your vet before you get there and tell them you are coming by and it *might* be parvo (give them a chance to keep the way clear for you so no other dogs get exposed).  Your vet will appreciate that.

You've got lots of folks here wh care (prayers and good thots going to you by the way!!).

I know exactly how scared you are -- I"m not making light of this, nor am I pooh-pooing the possibility.  But you being responsible now, makes everyone's life much easier and everyone - from your neighbors to your vet, will appreciate it.

Take care!!  But usually you'd see marked decrease in the health over several days not better and THEN blood.

Hey piper, try not to panic.
My neighbors dog was having diarrhea a couple of weeks ago, and it had blood in it. They didn't give her anything to eat for 24 hours and then when she got her first meal of chicken and rice, she threw it up.  But after smaller meals she started to have a BM that was just fine. Take your dog to the vet tomorrow to make sure, but try not to panic today!

Hi piper, try not to get too worried. It doesn't sound like parvo since he's been getting better. I'll be sending healing thoughts your way for the little guy. It is good to take him to the vet, but I'm sure he'll be fine.
