Laddie had a Cat Scan and it wasn't good news. The tumor is huge and growing across 7 ribs and pushing on the right and growing into the left lung and causing damage to the trach. If we opted for surgery it would mean amputating his right leg and removing 7 ribs, and the doctor said most likely they'd find it to be so bad that they'd have to euthanasia during surgery. The doctor is given him 2 weeks to a month left to live. Basically my husband and I are just going to make Laddie as comfortable as possible.
Last Thursday evening Laddie started coughing. Apparently it is caused from fluid in the chest cavity. We had reserved a seaside cottage for the weekend so he got to walk on the beach and we went for a very short nature hike and he loved it. These are the things he enjoyed doing the most and I'm so glad we decided to do it last weekend as it will most certainly be his last [

I read about a sedation pill that can be given prior to euthanization and my vet said that she would prescribe it to us to give to Laddie when its time as we are planning on having him euthanized here at home.
Has anyone ever given their pet a sedation pill prior to being euthanized, and if so would you recommend it? I'm not even sure if at that stage he will be able to down a pill. I mean I've always giving pills wrapped in peanut butter or food. How would I give him a pill if he is coughing up blood, or can't breathe and has zero desire for food?
This is awful to think about, but I have to be prepared.
