Vash 10 weeks on hills Rx diet

HI everyone.. so the update is that I guess VAsh does not have food allergies? He is still as red and itchy, bitey, and stinky as ever. :( my poor Vashy. Next stop the specialist I guess.

I'm sorry the diet didn't work; poor Vash. Have you tried bathing him once a week and using fish oil supplements and antihistamines ? You can either get a good skin soothing shampoo and conditioner from your vet or order NusalT online. The multi-faceted approach above can help control the itching in some cases; it wasn't enough for Jessie and also Sassy but if you haven't tried doing those things you may want to before taking Vash to a veterinary dermatologist. By the way, if there isn't one in your area or it's too expensive for you your vet can send some blood to a lab for allergy testing; many dogs get good results from the blood testing.

I was just curious, what diet did they give you??

It was the Hill's Ultra Allergen z/d; I remember because that's the same food the dermatologist wanted me to feed Jessie for her elimination diet. I didn't though; the first ingredient was potato starch and it also had cellulose powder and ethoxyquin, so I searched online and went to a local feed store and bought the EP Duck. It didn't have any of the same ingredients as her old food. She improved a lot and when I did the "challenge" and gave her chicken, which was the protein in her old food, she was chewing her feet again within a few days, so I knew she was allergic to it.

Hi everyone! well Thanks for the great support. In conjunction with the Hills Rx , which I was skeptical about anyway, Vash took benadryl twice a day. The best I have ever seen Vash was when we had him on Raw food we made ourselves ground meat, veggies and a fish oil supplement (3vcaps). I did try bathing him once a week but that seemed to make it worse sometimes. And the shampoo was from the vet especially for his issues. There is a doc not so nearby but in Red bank NJ. I guess it's time. I would love to relieve him of all his itchies and bald spots and redness.
