Dog With Huge Hump On Back End

I rescued a dog from the freeway with a huge hump on his backside.  It went down considerably at one time.  Then it came back & is getting bigger every day.  It's nearly the size of a bowling ball cut in half. He doesn't appear to be in pain, but he has a difficult time climbing stairs. I can't afford a huge vet bill for a biopsy & surgery at this time.  Any idea what it could be.  Photo Attached.

That needs to be seen by a vet. Maybe a hematoma? Have you looked into Care Credit which will let you make payments?

Please get your pup seen by a Vet...we are not doctors and cannot diagnose from a picture.  Most Vets will also take some post dated checks.

Welcome to idog; You have to take this dog to a vet ASAP. Vets are compassionate and some members have worked out a payment plan with a vet when they couldn't afford to pay for a necessary but expensive procedure such as surgery. Vets know that most people don't have health insurance for thier dogs and they want your dog to be well, so please take your dog to a vet and get him treatment.

It could possibly be spina bifida, my gsd had the surgical correction at 7 months.   Essentially a section of the bones of the spine do not close correctly and spinal fluid and tissue leak out.  The surgery is very expensive, the after care extensive and the outcome variable.

First, good for you for rescuing that dog., second, he is a real cutie pie, and thrid, he does need to see a vet.  I would think--but not being a vet I can't be sure--that the weight of that tumor/cyst, hematoma (whatever it is) will cause problems if not removed.  that is a lot of weight to carry on that one side and I would think it is putting extra pressure on the hip and knee on that side and possibily "trying" to pull the spine to the side on that side.  Please do get him to a vet and then let us know the outcome.  Again, bless you for rescueing that cutie pie.

My oldest dog had similar lumps, but not as prolific as this one. The vet said that most likely they were fatty tumors and recommended they be surgically removed because they were attached to muscle. It cost me $300 to have 3 tumors removed. The best thing to do is meet with a vet and discuss the options.

Have you taken the dog to a vet since your last post?  If so, what did they say about the lump?

I hope he has seen a vet by now.
