    Uncontrollable bowels ?!

Hi, my first post so be gentle !
I have had my dog now for some 9 years, Jasper.
Until recently he has been no problem as far as his bowel movements. Always waits till he reaches his favourite spot in the undergrowth of fields where we, and other dogs go.

Unfortunately recently he has behaved very out of character and started to poo whilst walking down the street before we get to the park, on the pavement which means I have to follow up with a suitable bag, and the unenviable task !
He has also taken to pooing in the garden and on the patio, which has never happened before.
I have obviously showed my disaprovement of this, but still does not change. He starts doing it while walking as though he cannot help himself !...................................Help !!

Is this a sign of old age and the inhability to control his bowels ?

    Any advice appreciated.

Your dog needs to go to the vet. At 9 years old there could be a long list of reasons that this is happening and here we just couldn't give you a conclusive answer to the problem.

My experience with dogs "going" when and where they usually don't go,,,means there is something wrong. Usually they are not happy with themselves about it,,they pretty much don't need someone to tell them they were bad. Like you said "he can't help himself!"  I sure would take him to be checked out,,if there is a medical reason that he is doing this I would want to know right away.
    Good luck!

    Thanks for the reply's !
Just thought somebody may have experienced a similar situation with a more mature dog, and said it's just natural when a dog is getting on in years ?

    Will book him in.............again !

Spent just over £1000 this year alone with Jasper and my vet, thought I may have got away with it this time, but no, cheque book ready once again !![;)]

I know that feeling, right after I fianly paid off my credit card from Gizzy's first surgery she had to go in agean for something else. It really is better to get something like this checked out by a vet, non of us here can phisicaly touch your dog and see the problem first hand, what you described sounds serious. Plese let us know the results, good luck!
