Frontline and bathing

    Frontline and bathing

I hope this is the right place to put this.

Anyway, I gave my dog his monthly Frontline treatment this afternoon. However, I just realized how disgusting he is and I really want to bathe him. I can't find anywhere in the directions that talks about amount of time to wait before the dog can get wet.

Does anyone know how long I should wait?

You really should wait 48 hours. I think I had heard where you can bath after 24, but I always recommend 48 before or after grooming.

Hope this helps and that you can wait that long [;)]

Thanks! And I can try. It's a good thing we're not going to the park again for a couple of days--otherwise I'd have to bathe him right away (rolling in mud is never a good thing for my sheets!).

My Vet said 48 hours prior to and 48 hours after, no bathing....

I've heard the same thing - 48 hours. In fact, we put it on her today (1st of every month) and are scheduled for a grooming NEXT Mon.  So it wll be a week which is more than enough time. But, wait at least 2 days if you can.

Frontline is waterproof but is it shampoo proof?  Just curious.

They say it is, but the 2 times we've had to battle fleas was when we bathed her the day after the Frontline Plus. My vet says to wait 3 days to bathe AFTER applying Frontline Plus and not to bathe less than 3 days BEFORE applying Frontline.  Just to be safe . . .

Yeah, that makes sense.  I bought the frontline spray to try out since it was much more cost effective, and the label says it lasts from 30-90 days but can be reapplied at 30 days.  But I also have De Flea shampoo that says it can be used with other products, so I would probably try using that if I had to bathe him between 2/3 days and maybe up to 7 days after application.  But, he's usually good for about a month or two without a bath, so I can just time it alright.

I love the DeFlea Shampoo. That's what was recommended to me when "we" had fleas. It works great and whatever fleas are on the dog die on contact.  It makes her coat extremely soft.  The directions on the bottle don't say, but the website does, put the shampoo on your baby dry before you wet her down. Leave the shampoo on for about 5 min. and massage all over. Then rinse.  It's really watery but the website says it's supposed to be like that. Good luck!

I just bought the De Flea since I found 2-3 fleas on Sammy and we just gave him a bath.  I also used regular shampoo after the De Flea since it smells kind of bad/chemical-ly, so I hope that didn't mess it up.  I also got the De Flea spray for bedding/pets etc and sprayed his bed down with it, but of course it just brought that chemical smell back.  Oh well.  Trying to stop a couple fleas from turning into many fleas.  I had read on here to put it on him dry, but since it's so watery it worked just fine dry then left it on a few mintues and rinsed then did the regular shampoo.  He has really short hair and I can't see any fleas so I hope we got them!

    Thanks! [:)]

I hope you get the fleas, too.  Sounds like you did it right.  Bogey really needs a bath, but she's going to the groomer on Mon., so I think we're going to wait.
