Dog eating his hair?

    Dog eating his hair?

    Hi everybody;

    I have a nine month old Samoyed (Marty) who's blowing his coat right now.  So I have lots and lots of hair in my house!  When I brush him, and pull the excess fur out of the brush, he eats it.  Right up.  Obviously, I stopped setting the hairballs down and now put them directly in the garbage, but is there a reason why dogs do this?  I looked at the dog books I have, and none of them mentioned it.  Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks!

    never heard of that before. Might want to ask the vet or a groomer.

    When Zoe was a puppy and I did some "pre" grooming before I took her for her haircut, she would eat the hair I would cut off!  I don't know why, but she doesn't do it anymore, and I groom her completely myself.

     She will still eat kleenex if she gets the chance!
