My beautiful 10 month old puppy swallowed a stuffed animal last week and had surgery to remove the object. Everything we told would be fine and the surgery went well. They removed a portion of his bowels but everything should have been fine. Well we took him home and he was vomitting secrections from his stomach. We took him back, they went back in to see if there was an area to repair. They did repair a small leak and then again he should be fine in a few days. Today things have gotten worse, he was vomitting up these secretions and aspirating some into his lungs. They tried to put in a tube through his nose to remove these fluids but the attempt failed. He is on oxygen and a "humidifier" in intensive care. Basically we are just waiting, hoping that he doesn't vomit again and his breathing gets better and he coughs up this fluid. They say he cannot have that tube placed now because he needs the oxygen to help him breathe.
Anyone been through this? Is there anything more that we can be doing? Is there any quicker way to remove these fluids?
