You were on another thread, too, with this problem. Please, stop treating your lawn with fertilizer, or anything else. Have the dog allergy tested. Sometimes, inhalant allergies, contact allergies, or (less frequently) food allergies are the culprit. If you get the dog tested, you will probably find the cause. Don't give up - you may be putting a dog to sleep needlessly over an easily corrected problem!!!!!
Also, didn't you say that you have been living in the home for two years? Is his condition coincidental with your moving there??
It isn't that common for a dog to suddenly start mutilating himself if there is no environmental cause. Instead of trying to get away cheap with over the counter stuff, wouldn't it make more sense to test him medically for allergies, and address them correctly?
