    Making UTI easier to bear

Hey everyone.  I used to visit these forums at their old location on occasion, and am glad to have found them again.

I am currently home for the summer with my parents, who have a 65 lb female (largely English Shepherd, we believe) who is displaying some pretty clear symptoms of a UTI or some related problems.  We are bringing a urine sample in tomorrow for testing, and if necessary will bring Molly in for a check-up.

At the moment, though, I am wondering if there's anything I can do for her to make her less uncomfortable for the rest of the night.  She has managed to avoid peeing in the apartment, aside from just a few accidents, but is clearly experiencing urgency.  I also suspect that she's feeling pain, though it's difficult to tell with her.  She's more lethargic than normal.

My mother gave her a vitamin C tablet earlier this evening, but do you guys have any other suggestions?  Specifically, I am wondering whether Azo has been found safe for use with dogs, since I personally remember it as a life saver when I had a UTI.  Is there any knowledge of Azo use in dogs?  Otherwise I'd never consider giving it to her.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't think vitamin C will help.I think you should probably keep a close eye on her so if she have difficulty urinating, rush her to the vet! It may be fatal if not treated RIGHT AWAY

I just got back from the vet with Molly.  She does have either a UTI or a bladder infection, and has been started on ABs and an anti-inflammatory.  She should be feeling better by tomorrow.

Also, I asked the vet about Azo, and though she wasn't familiar with the product, she suggested against using it.  So for anyone else who was curious, I guess that's your answer.

Well, it had seemed like the ABs were helping, since Molly was more active today, and didn't pee as frequently while she outside (fewer puddles, larger amounts, which is good).

Now, however, I'm thinking that she might have just been feeling better because of the anti-inflammatory.  She just had a bunch of little accidents around the apartment.  We've been walking her more frequently, but apparently we didn't get her out in time this evening.  Shouldn't the ABs be helping by now?  She got a shot at the vet yesterday, and a full course today.  Now she's having more leaking than before she started treatment.

    Any ideas?
