    hip dysplaisa treatment

My 16 month old chow has dhyp dysplasia pretty bad. She is on Glycoflex. Anyone ever hear of that? Is there a good food or other supplements that might be good? I feed her holistic Eagle Pack right now mixed with canned Solid Gold. The vet doesn't recommend surgery at this time.

What are her symptoms? Glycoflex is good; maybe you should/could get Glycoflex III, though.

Also, stay away from beef and wheat as it tends to imflame the joints.

I have 2 HD dogs who need THRs (hip replacements) and am getting one done in Sept and another one done ?? sometime later.

If you have any questions, post them. I have become a "mini" expert about HD in the past year by default. (By having these two dogs.)

I am new to this forum, and I  have a 13 year young Dalmatian which I had since he was 6 weeks old ,and about 5 months ago his hips started to bother him . he also did dodo in the house in the middle of the night because the bowels are in the same area as the hips and when he would move it would stimulate his bowels and a accident would happen  then his doc gave him etodolac 500 mg for the problem. took for 3 days and started to have more accidents.so we stopped taking the meds. and we took motrin made him do dodo also.Lucky always let me know when he had to go out. thank god for ceramic floors. and it does not bother me when he has accidents.  he just passed one[:@] boy does it smell.
he is to old for surgery for he also has a heart mermer .
he has problems getting up and down, and when he goes dodo he can't hold himself up very well . other wise he is healthy . he can still run from the street to the house I don't let him do that to much only once a day . because his leg or leggs just might give out.and we do not any more problems now.

Hi, I was just wondering if you have ever thought of giving your dog any pain meds like Deramaxx ? To make him more comfortable or does the Vet think he is too old for this and it might bother his heart? Just a thought...David

Hi, my 80 lb mixed breed was diagnosed at about that age. We give him Ester C, fish oil & a glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement as well as a multiple. When he gets a bit gimpy he gets a deep tissue massage to loosen up knots and improve circulation. So far, knock on wood, he's no worse at five than he was at 18 months. A lot of people also find accupunture beneficial.

I have some questions for you, stacita,
First, what does your dog weigh?

Second, what does ester c do? and where do you get your fish oil...and how much do you give you dog?

My dog had surgery to fix hip displaysia on one hip, she has it on both hips but she really needed the surgery on one side because it had fractured. She had a Femeral Head Ortotstomy (FMO) to correct the displaysia. Basicaly the ball on the top of the femer does not fit into the socket on the hip so the femeral head had to be reconstructed to fit in correctly. It has since healed and other then her slight lopsided walk you could hardly tell she had the surgery. I give her Yucca as a holisitic apporce to deal with the arthritus that resulted from the dip displaysia. I also give her a food that contains glucosimine in it to also help along with fresh salmon for the fish oil. Over all she has been a very happy dog and the surgery was the best I could do to help her live as normal life as she could.

Here is a recent pic of my Giz, you can see how she sits and her hips don't line up with her body.

Here is anouther one where you can see how her hips are a little out of place.
