Eye boogers

    Eye boogers

My dog has leaky eyes.  Its worst in the morning - a thick, sometimes yellowy discharge.  She has some clear discharge during the day, but if it builds up, its white-ish.
It may be unrelated, but she threw up twice in the past 3 days & had some regular as well as loose stool and has been on and off lethargic.  I took her to the emergency vet last night after she threw up and she was sent home with some stomach pills & prescription food.
Most of the time, she's her normal self, but I'm worried.

It sounds like enough worrisome things going on that I'd be concerned too. If I were you, I'd make an appt. with your regular vet.  Emergency clinics usually treat the most apparent problem but don't always do much in the way of diagnostics.  Your regular vet can run bloodwork and other tests to try to figure out what's going on.

Good luck - I hope it's nothing serious.

I agree with Cathy -- the dog likely has an infection and it's systemic enough to show in the eyes.  I don't like prescribing FOOD as an 'emergency'  response to vomiting?  ewww.  Bloodwork as a starter for sure.  At your regular vet ... or somewhere you trust.

Also have your vet check under magnifying glasses to ensure no eyelashes are growing inside of the lid which would cause eye infections which clear up and reappear. My Shih Tzu had this problem in which he kept having eye infection after another. Eventually this was his diagnosis, and they cortarized his bottom lashes which were growning inward on the inside of his bottom lid.
