Peanut Allergy?

    Peanut Allergy?

Anyone heard of dogs being allergie to peanuts? When we leave for the day I put a bit of peanut butter in her Kong for her to lick.  My dog has itchy. scratchy toes and belly. We had her boarded for 10 days, (no peanut butter) and when we got back she wasn't itching or scratching for the first couple days and almost as soon as I started up with the peanut butter again, she started itching and scratching again.  We're going to quit with the peanut butter for a while and see what happens.

My sons Dane  Ollie gets very bad stomach problems after eating peanut butter. He is an allergy dog also~!

We thought it might be grass, but she's hardly been on the grass and has more opportunity to be into the peanut butter.  So, we'll have to see what happens.

Most of the time when they have an allergy to something like grass its not from walking or laying on it,,,its just from it being in the air...

yeah, I know. But what do you think about the peanut allergy?  Grass and peanut butter were the two things that she had NONE of at the kennel so we're trying to find out if it's one of those. The peanut butter is an easy one to eliminate for a while and see how she does with that.  Thanks.

Since peanuts are a big allery thing for humans,, I don't know why they wouldn't be for dogs,,,so I would be not giving it to my dog for a couple of months to see if that would take care of her ;problems. Like you said, thats the easy one to eliminate. AND if that is all it is,, your very lucky!!!

Thanks much. Yeah, she gets peanut butter in her Kong and to help her take her Benedryl - the thing is is that she LOVES it!   But we can put some moist dog food in her Kong and she'll like it just as well and a little butter to get her pills down (already tried the butter and she was fine with it).  She gets the Kong daily when we leave for work.  So, we'll see.  Thanks for your help.

Crazy. Thanks. This gives me hope. She has none yesterday and today we'll try again. I'll give her a week or so. But I'm really hoping it's the peanut butter because she's just so miserable - I just feel bad that it's been me who put her through all that.  But, we'll see.  Crazy - how long did it take for your baby to stop itching?

Hi..It took my dog about a week to stop itching he was miserable poor little thing...He itched day and night constant I felt really bad .No more peanut butter for my dog..Hope you're baby is doing better

Don't really notice a difference yet - it's only been 1 day and she was getting peanut better pretty much throughout the day.  If it is the peanut butter, I'd think we'd see her itching a LITTLE less in a day or so.  Like you said, your baby was itching for a couple days after just a little peanut butter. How much did she eat to make her itch so bad?

Crazy - where in Calif. are you? I'm in the Chicago suburbs now, but grew up in Souther Calif. (birth until 22 years old).

    Thanks, Jenny

When I first got my adopted dog that was supposed to have food allergies, she cut her toe pad outside on something. To play it safe the vet gave her some antibiotics. She doesn't like having a pill plaqced in her throat so a friend of mine recommended peanut butter. Sure enough it worked great, but the next day she came down with diarrhea. Back to the vet and some anti diarrehea menditation, and again I gave it to her with peanut butter.  After a few days of that, I decided to stop using the peanut butter and to use Pill Pockets instead to give her her medicine. The diarrehea immediately went away. I told the vet, and the vet said that she probably is allergic to peanut butter,
