Blowing Coat-Energy Level?

    Blowing Coat-Energy Level?

My dog is blowing coat.  He is a white shepherd/husky mix.  He is 2 years old so I am not surprised by the amazing amount of fur that he is losing. [:D
I am noticing he has a bit less energy.  He also goes to day care a few days a week and they have commented that he is not as playful and just not himself.
He is eating normally, and not acting weird otherwise.  This is week 3 of him blowing coat, so I am hoping we are nearing the end.
Can his change in energy level be caused by blowing coat or should I be concerned that something else is going on?
    Thank you!

Welcome and your dog is really beautiful!!

The extreme shedding wouldn't cause a decreased energy level, but the two symptoms could be a sign of something else going on.  Have you changed his food?  Is it hotter there than normal?  Is he eating like usual?  Any other problems like loose stool or such?  If everything else seems fine, he may just be going thru a typical shedding cycle and the lethargy may be nothing to worry about unless it continues or gets worse.  My dogs go thru periods where they just sleep a little more or aren't as spunky, and then they perk right back up.  It's always good to rule out any possible problems though.

    Thank you for your reply.
He is eating normally, and has not shown any other physical changes.  He has lost 2 pounds since he was last weighed in February. I have not changed his food.  It has been really hot over the past few weeks, but has cooled down this week.
I will give it a few more days and see if he is back to normal.  If not, off to the vet we go!

Have you recently put flea and tick stuff on him? Certain kinds always made Casey lethargic for a couple days.

Good luck! HOpe he feels better!

My shiba's are always more lethargic(not really the word I am looking for) when blowing their coats.  Also with the heat they are a little more lazy.  They didn't even want to go for a walk today even though we waited until it cooled down.  Normally they are raring to go.  Toshi also always looks scrawny when blowing to the point of me taking her to the vet to check weight loss.  She has actually gained two pounds but even other people have noticed how skinny she gets.  If you are really worried, go to the vet.  Better safe than sorry.
