Dog bitten by brown recluse spider getting worse

My dog was bitten by a brown recluse spider. He was on antibiotics for 2 weeks. It is over a month later and it seems to be just getting worse. We have been having a cone thingy on his head so he doesnt irritate it. The bite was in his groin area, and now has spread up his tummy and also to his male organ. Do you have any suggestions with what to do to help his healing or stop the spreading at least? Thank you!

Oh my gosh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,what does the vet say???   A couple of years ago... a dog on this board was bitten by a rattle snake,,,and it was terrible...for several weeks. The girls used to post her pictures on the board,,,and it was so sad,,,made me cry every time. She survived though,,,and was fine. I hope the same  for your dog.
Does the vet have any other ideas on how to help?

No. Vet really hasn't been too much help. Yeah earlier in the summer he was bitten by a rattle snake. the poor guy has been through everything this summer. He is a smaller dog. 1/2 mini american eskimo/ 1/2 pomeranian. Our larger dog probably would have taken it all better. but it just kinda sucks for him.

Maybe another vet might help more?   Is there others in your vicinity?  Is he feeling okay with all of this?   Search the internet...there is usually good help or ideas there.
Maybe someone will come along here with an idea for you.
Wish I could help,,,,LUCKILY  I know nothing about these poison bites.

Seek another vet...obviously this vet hasn't fixed the problem.

I agree, seek another vet.  If you live in an area where those types of poisonous creatures are, there could be a vet who specializes in treating pets who get bitten.

After taking my dog to another vet today, we found out he was misdiagnosed. We just got back from taking in Casey. They examined him and identified his sores as possible tumors. They did lab work and it came back as cancerous. Kinda hard news to take...but at least we know now.

Oh my gosh...that WAS a misdiagnose.  I'm sorry to hear this,,,but your right,,you know for sure now. Is there treatment that can be done?

Well the vet suggested Radiation. But Casey is 9yrs old. and i donno if my parents will chose to do that. They put him on a steriod to help him feel better and not so aggitated, so he can "live his life more happily while he is here". we talked about it and he hates wearing the cone, we are chasing him everywhere aroundd the house cause he'll take it off on his own and start licking the sore, which he cant do. My mom being a teacher, will soon not be able to be around the house all day and watch him every minute. so i donno exactly how long without treatment or puting him down we will go. i guess it just kinda really sucks.

I'm sorry your faced with this. It is a fact of life that we all must someday face,,and its not a good part of  life either.
I'm sorry!  But you never know,,, maybe it will be okay,,, stranger things have happend then a pet OR human living much longer then a doctor thought.
    Hang in there....

I'm not sure it would help or work, but there are other types of E-collars available that are much more tolerable for the the dog than the cone.  If keeping her from licking the area is the biggest problem right now, it would be worth looking into.  They're usually shaped like a donut and softer and more pliable.  You might try doing a google search on soft e-collars and see what comes up.

We put Casey to sleep yesterday. The cancer just kinda took over his body. Thank you for all of your help throughout everything.

My thoughts are with you and your family during this sad time.  Sounds like Casey has been through a lot during the past few months... you've helped him in the most unselfish way.  Take care Beth.  Run Free Casey.

I am so sorry you lost Casey; do you know about the Rainbow Bridge? It's where Casey is now, healthy and strong again, waiting for you.  He has many friends there to play with who are waiting for their owners to join them too. Here's a link to the Rainbow Bridge if you want to post a thread about Casey's passing; [linkhttp://forum.dog.com/asp/tt.asp?forumid=9]        http://forum.dog.com/asp/tt.asp?forumid=9[/link]   Run free Casey [sm=angel.gif]
