Skunk smell! HELP !

Wrigley got sprayed by a skunk mainly around his face. We are using tomato juice and dog shampoo to get rid of the smell. He didn't get bit or scratched and it didn't get in his eyes. Any other suggestion that we would be able to use around his face? The peroxide mixture is too harsh.

Okay,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,so you don't like the peroxide, baking soda and shampoo idea, huh?
So how about the over the counter concentrated douche?

I have gotten peroxide in my eye before, and I really can't risk that with Wrig. Do you mean female douche? Like Summer's eve?

You are not supposed to put the peroxide mixture on their face.
I GUESS Summers Eve would work,,,,,I just had concentrated douche written on the same paper as the peroxide recipe.

i used crushed tomatoes, tomato juice, doggy shampoo...the only thing that really did the job was time. after 6+ months the smell was virtually gone, though if you stuck your nose in the dense fur under his jaw you could still smell it for over a year. i actually grew to like the smell, since it was the smell of my best buddy.

hiya,
around where I live we don't get skunks but I have read somewhere that you can do the same idea with the baking soda and soap, but replace the peroxide with 2% white vinegar (prob spelt wrong soz).
Its not meant to work as well as the peroxide but does work.
hope this helps, I also know the warning signs that a skunk is gonna spray if you want them.

My neighbor just told me that baking soda and vanilla extract worked for his dog - it worked better than the tomato juice and it smelled a whole lot better too. Dilute the mixture with some water. We saw a litter of baby skunks last night and that's when he told me. Good luck! If you use the vanilla, let us know how it worked!

Repeated white vinegar and water rinse. You have to cut the oil in the skunk spray. Follow with regular shampoo.

Fun Tomato Bath!!!
After a homemade tomato bath and a Petsmart Skunk bath, Wrigley is back to normal.

you can go to your vet and they have some grat cleaner that is gentle to use on them.
